After seeing this, Honda should be embarrassed. If sports bikes are said to be on the decline, it certainly hasn't affected the mindset of BMW engineers and management. This is a really special bike.
Hmmm tank and rear end not sharp enough......front looks much better.....no brembo or ohlins and hate the shell suit paint scheme plus the key is off centre would do my ocd no good ....10kg lighter than the old fugly one 197kg ...see new wsbk team is Sykes on board but don't think it will trouble Rea and the green team....looks a bit sports tourer not for me ...
I just hope Honda can get there act together in BSB and Wsbk.....of course the brand is Moto GP winners...I like the build quality of the brand don't get the same feeling on BMW cheap mesh plastics even there cars have lost there quality ...bland all the same ....
I think finish and build quality is the 1 area the SP comes out on top against all the superbikes. That comes at a premium though and the base model just doesn't feel as special. As a whole package I'd imagine this new BM will wipe the floor with the blade in any given review. I think if you're a road only rider then build and finish should be valued higher than anything else. But is that enough to overlook other shortfalls? What I don't get is..... if Honda want the fireblade to be a roadbike first and foremost why hasn't it got cruise control and heated grips as standard?
It’s got 83 lbs of torque, not much difference from the current model. 8hp increase which I suppose didn’t take much to squeeze out of the OEM mapping. ShiftCam tech worries me with future reliability issues. Nah,
What a pickup @Wozza ! I didn't notice that. You must have gone through the video frame by frame! I have not studied the bike in detail, but I'll make an interesting point. As an 'older' person, I have grown up knowing the BMW build quality (bikes and cars) to be unsurpassed by most production brands. If I were to buy a new BMW now, I would be buying with that perception. I wonder then, how many are buying new Bee-Ems with that belief, only to be disappointed later?
Key has always been off centre on the S1000rr. I've got a BMW XR next to a 2015 blade in my garage and have to say there isn't a lot in it as for build quality/finish. Probably give it to Honda by a nose. Although in 7000 miles on the Honda and 8000 on the BMW the Honda has had warranty work and also cut out at the side of the road on me. BMW has been faultless. So I think too much is being made of BMW being cheap and nasty nowadays....not true in my experience. Wonder if this new BMW is still going to be cheaper than an SP? I reckon it will be.
Shows how much attention I've paid to them when looking. I think we will see some 'aggressive' marketing campaigns to take up a larger slice of the sports market. Isn't the new Ninja the dearest of the lot now? (Perhaps it has a slightly higher spec)
I might try one now they have gotten rid of that awful headlight set up, it could have been the best ride in the world, but I could not have lived with that front.
The more I look at this bike, the more I like it. Never thought I would be considering a BMW again..lol
Gold Trellis subframe is miles better than the old bikes DIY Box section lash up that looked like it'd been made by a Schools Engineering 1st year Student!
Agreed ! that was one of the first things to like about this new one. I remember posting that the old subframe looked like it had been fabricated in the back streets of Mogadishu
