struggle to get my blade on the paddock by myself, anyone use a spinner and are they worth a go,cheap as chips but do they work
Yes Ive got one, it's ok but the wheel sometimes moves to the side a bit. But it's a reasonable alternative, I only use it for chain cleaning/lubing.
I've never used one, just put my bike on the paddock stands from the side stand. What problem do you have putting the bike on paddock stands?
I dropped the first bike I ever put on stands. Since then I've found a few tricks to do it easier, but I understand the apprehension. Give the spinner a shot, it's cheap enough. A mate of mine uses a front wheel chock mounted to a piece of plywood to assist him. He just pushes the front wheel into the chock, which leaves the bike upright while he puts it on the rear stand.
I've got one and use it regularly. @Lozzy is right in that the wheel often slides left or right, I found the front wheel to be worse for that - otherwise they are great for a quick cleaning sesh! Also, getting the bike on the paddock stand...I always stand to the offside whilst I move the bike upright and then wiggle the hooks onto the bobbins, generally stops the bike toppling over. I did once drop my Dominator on top of myself whilst it was on both front and rear paddock stands...a bit too vigorous removing the front wheel and the thing came straight down on me, lucky really it could have gone the other way and damaged something
Paddocks stands are not created equal! Had mine for ages and had no problem, friend gave me a new one and first time i almost dropped it.
I still like my warrior spider it picks the full bike up and does not get in the way of the wheels, I am always nervous about paddock stands, also my swing arm has a scratch from the previous owners paddock stand
The warrior is also my goto stand, got an abba ( which i never use) the paddock only when tensioning the chain
I'm in the Warrior camp too, although you could do a track day then you would get loads of practice with paddock stands
Why not get a front wheel chock, that will hold the bike upright for you whilst you pop the rear on the paddock stand.
I use the 'spinner' for front wheel cleaning. Essential to keep the wheel straight, because as said, if not, it will roll to the edge.
For that very reason I fitted the adhesive backed thick felt you get for putting under the feet of furniture to protect wooden floors on my padock hooks. No swinging arm scratches
I have one like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcyc...486694?hash=item5210a3c5a6:g:6fgAAOSwzc1bpJkY put the bike in this first then on the paddock stand
I have one same as this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Qtech-Moto..._rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=ZCW4WSYR5S0CFDRPYFKK But its fixed to the floor of my shed so don’t use with paddock stand. I have a piece of 3/4” ply that I put under the side stand to bring the bike near vertical. That way standing to the right side there’s no risk of it falling over and it makes aligning the hooks a lot easier before the lift.
surely boothman like mine you do not need a piece of ply because these style stands hold the bike upright anyway ?
No the stand is fixed to the shed floor, I use the plywood when the bikes on the drive and I need to put it on the paddock stand
I think the Booth is talking about occasions when his bike's NOT in the shed. Note that the chock is bolted to the floor.
