Just watched the first one on the triumph.
Pity they could not live up to their name.
My mate brought 2 last year brand new a t100 and a bobber.
After 100 miles on one and 500 miles on the other he put them up for the winter.
When he got them out they where covered in rust and corrosion all over, casings and chrome.
After talking to several people who have sold theirs because of it thriumphs answer was to clean them.
    My mate is gutted

To be fair, what sort of protection, if any, did your mate apply to the bikes? Most of us know the effects of cold and dampness, but might he have overlooked ACF etc or dehumidifying the area?

Nigel these where brand new bike that I would of thought would do a bit better than that.
And we have seen 4 more people that have sold theirs because of the rust.
I for one will never buy one and I love the look of the bobber

But Bazz, with the greatest respect, being 'brand new' (whether bike or car) does not immunise it from the elements.

Having just said that, I now reflect on that pic of the bike (CBR1000F?) that was found after sitting 2 years in the elements on a farm and it actually looked pretty good. https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/1998-2002-yamaha-r1.36307/page-2#post-474978

Perhaps I shouldn't apply 'natural logic' to the scenario you've presented.;)

I've just had 10 mins looking at various triumph forums and it does appear to be an issue with these models apparently! Even some US dry states owners have had it...so doesn't seem to be linked to poor care re weather..

He has a zx10 kept with them and that was ok
If you sore the staight of them you would not believe it.
If your car went rusty after 100 miles would it be ok?
If your blade went rusty after 100 miles is that ok?
Don’t buy one is my advise
And I love the look of them

To be fair though, I've 2 mates who had 3 explorers between them with no issues & one of the lasses is on her 3rd street triple and they've all been bang on. I'd have the new rs in a heartbeat it's a lovely bike

Thanks for the heads up with these TV programmes - very enjoyable. Henry Cole was very lucky to be riding these priceless bikes.

My Dad never rated Triumphs - he had Norton and Velocette when he was a young man :D

Anyway, eventually got round to buying a Triumph myself, took it touring and thought I would ride it through Germany as a kind of - this is a proper motorcycle two fingers gesture !

Anyway the thing was a bit embarrassing, as it had some kind of persistent engine rattle that sounded like loose valves or something really not right.

I would have to ride slowly around campsites looking for my pitch, with everyone looking at me on my clackity Triumph. The Germans who took an interest must have thought the thing sounded shocking - like a valve loose.

It was doing my head in - so took it to the dealer and said please sort it out - the engine came out , the head off, replaced cam chains, valve timings - threw money at it, took them a week to do this - but still not really sorted, so I sold it.

As a result of that, not really in a hurry to buy another one :(

Think I have to get me a 888 or 916 - but in reality, no more than wishful thinking!:(
