    Hi guys,
Just joined! Well,i have an issue with my 2005 1000rr, i got the engine rebuilt recently (had the pistons, their rings plus the cylinder head replaced) and it sounds really fine while running. The problem is the overheating (up to 111 degrees) and the oil light (red) that doesn't get off, plus a clicking sound that comes from somewhere, around the lower part at the front of the engine. What could be the problem here?...should i be very worried? Where should i look to solve this?...yo help will be much appreciated!

I would be worried. I'll assume that oil and coolant levels are correct. That leaves the problem as something that has occurred during or post rebuild. I wonder if there is an oil pump problem/blockage OR the oil pump . The oil light function is for pressure and not temperature so that suggests an oil problem rather than coolant fault.

The oil pump cannot be accessed without removing heaps of stuff: fairings/ headers/lower engine cover. If you do not have the facility or equipment, first get a dealer to do an oil pressure test.

Hi, welcome and that’s bad. I too would be worried - who did the rebuild? If a dealer or reputable garage I’d be taking it back to them, but if it was a bloke down the pub I’d be questioning myself for everything he may or may not have done. As @nigelrb said pressure test first, be positive it could just be the sensor is wrongly connected or disconnected. The clicking could be any number of things and a dealer/specialist will be the best to identify if it’s a known thing or if it’s just something floating around. I certainly wouldn’t be riding it or even running it until after the pressure test and you know what the clicking noise is.

Difficult make a diag like that .
First of all check the oil pressure with a proper gauge.

I don’t suppose any one has got a spare 5mm fastener for the servo housing? C8CA8D2C-E2EA-4723-A87A-8D5D5BCF14A6.png

    Thx guys,
Having done the pressure test and cleaned the oil pump, the red light disappeared but it keeps flicking when the temperature hits around 90 degrees, which i believe must be an overheating warning. What could be causing the hight temperature that wont go away?...could it be the thermostat or is there something else that i should be looking to get rid of this overheating problem?

Did you bring it to the attention of whomever did the rebuild? That's the first place I would go.

Yes i did...he is a very good mechanic and he's good with the big bikes. But this overheating problem is confusing him too. Where/what exactly should he be looking/checking?

Just a thought. Is there any possibility that the wires/connections between the oil pressure light and the temperature light have been reversed?

Is it still making the clicking sound now you’ve cleaned the oil pump etc? did you find anything rattling around that shouldn’t have been in there?

90 degrees isn’t hot for the engine so I’m thinking its not temperature but still pressure - what was the pressure test value before and after you cleaned the pump.

    Hi guys,
We checked all that and it now heats up to 107 degrees at most. Someone suggested that i install another fan coz the other one seems weak (is he right?).
I rode the bike for a few days. The temp would get to 107 and start coming down.
However, the other day i started the bike and it wouldn't start yet it seemed fine to me by the time i parked it!!!!...I noticed that the NEUTRAL light isn't working anymore and the red oil light is back on!! Been trying to start it till now but it's stayed that way til now,it wont start! The battery is good, oil too and the fuel is full. What could possibly be the problem this time?..My mechanic is clueless too. We dont know where to start looking! ...Am getting desperate,to be honest!

My opinion is you need a new mechanic.

That's a bit like a surgeon saying if I knew where to cut it would be easy.

You need to find someone or somewhere with the diagnostic abilities to find out what is wrong.

I suggested in a previous post the prospect of a wiring problem or something incorrectly connected after the rebuiild. If this is the case the fan might not even be turning on. However, you suggest that it's 'weak' which means the fan motor might be faulty OR there is a loose wire that causing the fan to operate only intermittently.

Perhaps you should let the bike run with you sitting beside it to watch/listen when/if the fan comes on. You will either find that is the problem or be able to exclude it. I think the fan generally comes on at about 97 degrees Celsius.

Thx a lot!...will re-check the wiring first thing tomorrow. Could that be causing the disappearance of the neutral, the red light staying on and the bike not starting?...I mean, could it be a wiring problem?

It could be, but we're all flying in the dark with this. Was Jan 3 I posted about the oil light/neutral light prob. It could be a crushed wire to. As mentioned by @Spygoat , you have an 'alleged' mechanic on the spot. It would seem that he does not have Honda diagnostic equipment.

I understand your remoteness, but can you get the bike to a Honda dealer?
