SP or SP2? Exactly what mods where done to your bike, and how. This makes a difference. We have over 60 SP2s on the road in the USA and probably 300 SP1s and hundreds more base 1000RRs - all using the fly by wire and I have never heard of anyone complaining about lurching and hunting with the stock bike. Some had pinging until they bought decent fuel instead of rubbish 93 and most complained about how anemic the bikes felt at full throttle compared to their R1Ms or ZX10s. I and other even took the UK fueling/ignition maps and copied them straight into the ECU while where where waiting on dyno tuning time and no lurching or hunting. What P mode level and what gear/revs is this hunting taking place? Anyone got video of the behaviour?
Gents - the 2017/18/19 exhaust valve is in the muffler part of the exhaust - so how are you removing this part of the exhaust without having the absence of the exhaust valve taken into account? I hate to say it but cannot mod the exhaust without associated ECU tweaking. And while you are at it, just get a complete system and be done with it.
I was going to mention there is probably a difference between Euro/USA/California models because of emissions laws, but it seems you have isolated that by using UK maps. BUT, are the CATs the same with these models? I have SP2 and have not experienced the problems as identified by fellow members in this thread. My complaint was (and still is to a lesser degree) that throttle 'sensitivity' is not as direct as the cable system. I have also followed that up by conceding that is probably more of a rider familiarisation issue rather than a product fault.
Very fair point and probably more relevant with these later models with higher 'intellectual' capacity.
I have an SP1, 2018 The only mod has been the slip on Yoshi. Carried out by the local Honda dealer. I have got a short video of the hunting but for some reason i can't upload it. It was done on an iPhone so if anyone knows how to upload an iPhone video that would be good. I can upload pics fine from the phone.
So other than the CANBUS Hi and Lo connection to the Ohlins SCU, the SP1 ECU uses the same code base as the ABS and base models. How did you take care of the Check Engine Light that removing the exhaust flapper valve causes? Or did you leave the servo plugged in without cables attached?
The removed exhaust still has the cables attached. I don't know what the dealer did with the servo. But the problem manifested itself before the Yoshi was installed. I'm going to remove the Yoshi tomorrow.
If a 3rd party like Woolich Racing can develop some software for the 17/18 fireblade to improve the bike why can honda do that? lots of other manufacturers do ECU updates and can be downloaded at your local garage?
I think there is much confusion in the air these days. Woolich have not developed any secret that fixes anything. All Woolich Racing Tuned sells (as does every other "ECU flashing software" vender) is an editor that lets you alter parameters within the existing Honda ECU tables, then write those new values to the ECU. That is it. If there was surging or bucking or lurching then the problem lays in the Ignition and Fuel table values any way - a competant tuner can tune this behaviour out using existing tools such as Woolich Racing Tuned software.. You can induce this same behaviour in any Internal Combustion Engine by messing with the air/fuel/spark/exhaust. Modern Fuel Injected engines just have the added advantage of advanced table access to alter the available pool of ignition and fuel injector duration values to use in various conditions.
I understand the issue is with the SP Blades BUT the MT10 is also ride by wire and has similar issues, apparently the throttle is capped at around 50% in top gear and needs the throttle percentages turned 1:1 and there is a fuelling mod when having them remapped which removed the closed throttle fuel cut so the modulation between off throttle and on throttle is smoother and doesn't cause the bike to lurch. Again, my bike is a late 2018 and to cure this I have to invalidate my warranty by having the thing flashed! Pretty poor really but mine is going to have to wait until almost out of the warranty period. I can live with it until then.
This is true of every modern vehicle. In years gone by, you could jack with the carb jetting, but the modern vehicle manufacturer has to face the wrath of the various country governments that are dictating emissions and noise pollution guidelines and rules. The vehicle manufacturer could quit easily ship their bikes with thee needed software to edit the fuel and ignition tables - but they would then be aiding and abetting the vehicle owner to bypass engine control unit configurations that have been approved by the various governmental entities - that is the rub. We want bikes and cars that run like scalded cats and the Feds demand vehicles that make no sound and produce no emissions. You cannot have both. And the manufacturers are not permitted to give us the tools to make post purchase changes. Notice how Goldwings don't surge or lurch or buck. They also weigh a tonne, don't make much noise and are not winning MotoGP or WSBK
Just get a full system, PCV and dyno time...no big deal Seriously though, that is crap. Hopefully Honda will come up with a solution.
Agreed, Powercomanders are crap. Take a look at the resolution of a Bazzaz. There are many more tuneable points than a PC. Every option like secondary injectors or QS is an add on and it’s a mega expensive option. It’s old hat now, BUT it’s removable. One you’ve gone down the Ftecu or Woolwich option you’re stuffed as the original manufacturer map is gone and cannot be written back in so if you have engine problems and warranty claim you are stuffed.
Probably because emissions control is part of the problem and Honda can't be seen to be circumventing it after the bike is sold. I'm currently on a GSX-S and that has a bit of a snatchy throttle at times, luckily a tweak of the TPS is enough to resolve that.
If it's a 600 mile bike has it has its 1st service if not dealer can look at it then change the oil to the pure stuff then pin it in each gear....down a dual carriageway this time of year .
From what I recall @Wozza (without retracing previous posts) Kevin's had a pretty crap reception from the dealer over this. I think Kevin's genetics, with respect, might be a lot more passive than mine, because I would be friggin' ropeable and on the DOORSTEP of Honda UK. It's beyond phone calls and emails now. My layman's view is that it's all due to the Yoshi in the first place because the bike wasn't set for it. I'm not sure that reverting to stock now will actually rectify it, but that's beyond my level of knowledge.
My SP has a smooth idle ! i installed filter, slip on, pair mode and had it tuned using woolich software! i could not be more pleased with the result! went from 144 rwhp to 170rwhp. bike pulls like a freight train now!
