I don't put myself in the category of 'Track day rider' but I do the odd track day throughout the year. Regarding crash bungs, I would be more inclined to go down the route of engine case covers, GB Racings one's in particular and couple them with some track fairings or after market road fairings. My philosophy on this is that the bike is more likely to slide on the fairings and engine covers and come to a stop somewhere down the road or on the grass or gravel trap. I did this with my 09 blade which I've just traded in and intend to do with my new bike. With crash bungs, you hear all sorts of stories about them digging in and barrel rolling the bike causing untold amounts of damage. This has never happened to me...... but you can see, by the way crash bungs protrude, why this would happen. Plus I don't like the look of them!
Hi mate I appreciate your feedback. I have GB covers etc and don't usually run crash bungs, im just a little concerned as I go to Jerez soon and fear that if I have a spill I don't fancy trying to source a crank cover etc. Ideally I want track designed sliders.
i'v dropped bike with sliders on, only slow speed though, and they defiantly do a job, it ground half way down, i'v never dropped it with just the gb covers on,

R&G - if you crash they typically swap them for free if you give them a good write up on Social Media

Yes. Went down on one side and a guy at the track told me. I emailed r&g and they said thry’d Replace the single bung if I gave them a positive post on social media. But sshhh keep it on the down low
So......if it's on the down low, I take it it's not officially in R&G terms and conditions, that they will actually do this then?? Sounds like you just got lucky pal
True. It’s not in their T&C’s so they are not obliged to do this but the guy who told me got it, I tried it and got it .... maybe it’s how you ask.
I have R&G covers and no crash bungs. I am worried about the frame structure and engine case with crash bungs as I've heard stories of curbs and edges ripping the crash bung and bending frames/cracking cases. This could be fear mongering but its not worth it to me. Let the bike slide, fairings are cheap.
I'm no trackday expert, only done < 10 but what I have seen there are two types of crashes on a track day minor slides (typically done by novices) fookin massive end over ends (typically done by "experts") bungs will save a lot of damage in minor slides. However no end of engine cases, sliders, etc will save the bike in an end over end..... just my opinion
