A mate is selling his 929 Fireblade, details: Year: 2000 Miles: 7,000 Serviced New Tyres Price: £2,995 It looks in very good nick. Not used in the rain. Typically Channel Island bike, low mileage well looked after and not tracked. The only problem for you guys in the UK is that this is in the Channel Islands so you have to do some kind of paperwork. Nice, really nice:
And possibly a good move. Turning into a logistical nightmare. Have just learnt have to pay £600 VAT plus £55 to DVLA for registration fee, plus obtain Certificate of Insurance FIRST, and then there's the transportation costs which I'm waiting for.
Is it me or is £3k a steal for one of these with that kind of mileage? Kind of makes it worth the ballache?
Not a steal. It's at the top end of pricing. Looks in good nick though, but without original exhaust.
Understand that in principle. But then won't HMRC hunt down the seller for £495? Or, HMRC say to me, well, you've paid £495 VAT - now hand it over, and that will still be on top of the 2995 I've paid to the seller? All very technical, and perhaps a bit of the old storm in a tea cup. I'll make further direct contact tomorrow!
Speeds are low and distances are short - I wear an anorak on my bike (the ones with the fur hood that you get from Millets !)
I read an annoying rumor they will become collectable. Why are all the bikes I own apparently going to be collectable! It's like God wants me not to sell any bikes!
If you read the right magazines yes there all going to be collectable BUT I think it will be a few years down the line? I don’t think any of us will get rich out of collecting a few 1990/2000 reg bikes. There’s a few dreamers out there that think there 20 year old bike is now worth 10k but they are dreaming.
And the other point is that many of those bikes have 20 - 40,000 plus miles on them!! Further, anyone should be suspicious of the surprising amount of 'barn finds' that increasingly crop up. They're found in barns in UK, barns in USA and even barns in Japan. When did Japan ever have barns? Was Mr Miyagi san snapping flies out of them with chopsticks? And how all these 'farmers' who have protested how poor the industry is are suddenly flushed with all these precious bikes? Friggin' ebay sellers must think we are friggin' idiots - says the guy who put his screen on the wrong way. Sure, there are many bikes that will hold value well, but none of us is buying bikes with the outlook that in 20 years' time they will increase in value four fold. And no one ever did!!
Huh? You agree with me that the bike is at the top end of pricing yet downvote me for it. Or is it another of the famous 'chubby fingers' cases.
Not down voting you ha ha all the good stuff is top dollar and as others have said a bike is only worth what someone is willing to pay, I scroll eBay and there’s bikes on there that haven’t shifted in 6months or more.
