Hi everyone, I’ve just tried fitting the lower fairing on my blade and snapped the locating lug on the side fairing that sits within the belly pan and prevents the fairing popping out sideways. The lug is so small that I can’t see glue will be the answer. Any ideas of an easy fix?
The most effective way is to fibreglass the lug back on. I understand the location so it might mean enlarging the locating slot a small amount. You might get an idea from some of the 'glassing' I was recently doing on my RS50 restoration: https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/sale-of-the-century.36707/page-3#post-482706
Gorilla glue might work or try plastic weld, if not and you don’t mind drill through the faring a self tapping screw to hold it
The problem there is the force required on the repaired lug when trying to insert and would probably snap again. I am a fan of Gorilla products and have used both tape and glue, but here there's such a tiny surface are to butt to UNLESS Gixxa makes the lug into a 'sandwich' with a piece of plastic bonded above and below the lug.
This sounds similar to what happened to me when I fitted Chinese fairings. A quick 2 minute fix that you can't really go wrong with here.....Drill a whole through the lower part of the fairing and through into the belly pan and put a pushpin in to secure it, I did both sides. Be rock solid and no one will see the pushpin down there. Here's a pic of what worked for me!
Yes, Paul, I remember now. Looks so discrete and is effective. Given that, I wouldn't even spend the time with glues and fibreglass.
That’s a really good idea and I’ll try that. I’ll put it both sides so it look like it’s meant to be there and then post a phot. Thanks for the advice everyone.
