Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help me out. I have a 2015 bike, bought a fuel tank off eBay that said 2012-2015 but my fuel cap now doesn't fit as the fixings are in different positions, is this an error on behalf of the seller? I had previously bought a tank from a 2008-2011 and had the same problem, so I'm thinking it's the sellers mistake!
I'm sure the fuel cap changed in 2015 as it incorporated the new wave key. The carbon fuel cap covers are definitely different from 2015 onwards. It sounds as if the sellers tank is 2012 to 2014
That would make complete sense, thanks. Think I'll just fit the tank and get a keyless tank opener, it's for track anyway.
Lozzy is nearly right, the key and fuel cap changed in the 2014 year. But as its for the track, sounds like you have an ideal solution.
Yes I thought it was 14 but I'd been looking at the carbon look fuel cap pads to put on my 16 and realised that the pattern had changed for some reason between the 14 and 15's. Looks like the 14 has 7 bolts where as the 15 has 5?!?. So apologies I just presumed the cap/tank was different too...maybe they just changed the bolt numbers? https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Genuine-Ho...LOOK-Filler-Cap-Pad-08p61-mjm-800a/1437349217 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Wave...-Filler-Cap-Lid-Cover-2015-2019-/162820926349
No, I just think those eBay sellers have got it wrong, just double checked in the garage, my 14 plate has the new style key, (I knew that bit already) - and has 5 bolts on the fuel cap.
Don't be fooled by those fittings, both tanks only have 3 fixings on it in a triangle shape, they are just slightly different spaced. The rest of the bolts are smaller and don't actually screw right into the tank if that makes sense. I've got the new tank on and big running, just need the fuel cap now
Oh right I didn't know that ..lol serves me right for trying to get my woman brain round technical stuff
It's a learning experience, Loz. Not many would want to change tank fillers. You're much better off on here than on Mum's net complaining about wonky-wheeled Tesco trolleys!
