Just found M&P are selling the twin pack (cleaner and lube) with a cleaning brush for just £20. Not bad when you consider the extra 250ml volume of each you get over the competition (sometimes more when WD40 are selling 250 or 400ml tins). https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorbik...931578&hash=item52090cb5ae:g:cBAAAOSwgARa4Yo3
A chain that rusty (even for a commuter like me) makes me cry. Need to ditch the dry lube during this weather and use something more oily
I use the Wurth dry lube (chain wax, I think it's called? might not be wax) and my chain(s) have not rusted....the blade's only been out once since November and the GSXR has been through all weathers Highly recommend it -- BUT stick it on a clean chain!
M&P also had the same deal as Busters but both now not available. I'm sure if you ring either they'll inform you on the replenishment dates. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ipone-Ch...rbike-Motorcycle-Bike-2-x-750ml-/132598565105
Two separate products there mate, I also use the chain wax in the winter and had no bother then dry lube in the summer
I particularly refrained from saying anything. However, I am amazed that a woman will pay no end of attention to nails, eyebrows, lip gloss, bikini line, under arms etc, but come to picking up a can of spray lube the situation becomes: 'Eek, I'ma no touchin' that stuff. I'll just wait 16 weeks until the next service!'
Interesting video as this sort of stuff I do think about. I used Motul cleaner and wax exclusively a few seasons ago and found the X rings split and fell apart. Luckily I had the chain replaced under warranty. Unless the chain is filthy I generally only apply cleaner to a rag and wipe off, I prefer to keep the lube in the bearings than having to maintain a super clean chain.
Dry lube is the better product as it attract much less dirt and contaminates. Like said before it needs to put on a nice clean chain, thats probably why it suffers in the wet, when the dry lube is removed it 'rehealing' characteristics compared to wet lube is much less leaving an exposed chain. Inherently because dry lube doesnt attract too much road grime it is much easier to maintain. On the other hand, wet lube is much more easily able to re-spread itself essentially maintaining its protection, but the downside wet lube attracts much more dirt, more susceptible to wear, will fling if over applied, harder to keep clean etc
I have gone through gear oil (as in honda's manual) on my first bike to chain wax, chain lube and stopped at wurth which I've been using for more than 10 years! What makes it good also makes it not long lasting so frequent application is needed. But if I were using my bike daily all year round and not interested in chain maintenance, I would use a thicker lube which also included rust inhibitors and put up with the mess it leaves all around
