In that as of today (Friday) after 30+ years I am mortgage free having made my last payment this morning. What a lovely feeling it is knowing that the pressure is off not having to make that payment anymore and I can now even consider looking for a part time job if needs be
149 payments and counting Need to find a way to clear the fecker off while the interest rates are low
My folks retired and finished their mortgage the same month. This is after nearly 50 years in public services. That same month they bought a brand new Jag and booked a around the world cruise! Never seen them happier since my sister told them she was moving out! Jeez, I dont want to wait that long
'Tis a great feeling to be mortgage-free. And, of course, a great achievement for a lifetime's work. The only downside is, especially after retirement, and for one so young and energetic as me, is that people comment (and I'm serious here) 'Oh, you don't work, how do you survive?' and I read the hidden implication that I'm a benefit grabber. I suppose that in reality, if I had a neighbour who seemed to do nothing but go to gym, polish bikes and then go our riding for half a day, I'd think there's something fishy going on too. So @T.C , don't take sh1t from non one.
