Stock bikes with stock trim, I can wholeheartedly say that changing to a 55 profile will cause issues with blipper and quickshift to some degree
Those your groups bikes or the Bridgestone teams bikes in the picture? For your group, what bikes and what tyre sizes and whats the feedback and verdict?
Our group bike1 running 120/70/17 sc1 190/55/17 sc2 bike2 running 120/70/17 sc1 200/55/17 sc2 bike3 running 120/600/17 200/655/17 vo2’s
Was the 190/55 close enough to stock to have the bike work properly? And the 200/55 & 200/655? They leave the electronics all confused? Traction control work ok? How about ABS controlled rear wheel lift mitigation? Did that kick in correctly or was the rear tyre all up in the air under suicide braking?
The only bike with no faults was the one on v02’s The bike with 200/55/17 sc2 went into fault within 20 meters with a permanent line on gear indicator. Needed a reset to clear, it then had shift issues and very intrusive tc The bike with the 190/55/17 was fine until tyre wear seemed to cause shifter issues. Tc working fine.
What are the bikes? 2017/8/9? SP1's? Thats odd that the bike on 200/655 tyre had no issues. What TC settings? I have 2 buddies here in the USA that when they run 200/655 the bikes never trigger Traction Control - ever. The bikes can carry the spinning tyre to stupid levels almost spitting them off many times. Switch to 190/50 and it intervenes as expected. The 190/55 should have got closer to stock tyre height as it wore so not sure how it would be the cause of shifter issues while the overly tall 200/655 had no shifter issues. Maybe Honda system is just fucked.
Strange ain’t it? All bikes 2018 sp1’s It may of just been a one off on the 190/55 but not worth risking so blipper got turned off just in case. We can only put it down to the change with the bigger front and rear on the v02’s maybe helping with wheel speed sensor?
Possibly. But to draw any meaningful conclusion we really need the 'as fitted' diameter and width of each tyre. As you can see the V02 may be dimensionally smaller than the Diablo, but that does not explain why the stock tyres work. These dimensions I have below are those published by the manufacturers themselves. Then again the key may very well be wheel speed sensor ring diameter vs fitted tyre diameter. I will dig the rings out and do that maths later. I am not sure. My P1relli (and I do the 1 instead of the i so the damn advert links dont get inserted) are not on the wheels any more and the resting diameter not installed is 605mm tall - yet the P1relli book shows 612mm. We need proper 'as installed measurements' for proper comparison.
I can do that once the bikes are back from Spain, what I would like to do is find some other options for a track focused tyre that’s closer to the sp and Rs10
Just popped down to the local Honda shop and did took some measurements of the P1relli SC SP on a SP1 and SP2. Updated the post above. The rear is probably not as accurate as I wanted - measured the tyres on the bike, measuring the wheels off the bike will of course be the most accurate.
