Thats fekkin terrible. Even if you want to change the address on the existing policy for the last month they're gonna charge you £32....it's such a scam.
Sorry, but I am no insurance expert, I only deal with legal matters (which are seperate issues). I guess it all comes down to what is written in the T's and C's. Sorry I can't help other than to agree with your sentiments.
I had this when I sold my last bike. The admin fee was more than the amount to be refunded so I said I should have just let it lapse. They said they would wave the fee. Unfortunately though because I told them I'd sold the bike, I then couldn't just let it lapse...
Cheers Lee...I might ring them and run the cancellation past them just as an enquiry of something I 'may' do rather than a definite need. If they quote me the £32 I'll call their bluff and say I'll let it run on in that case but I won't ever consider using them again...and see if the 32 quid magically disappears. It's all the more annoying considering they've got £25 of my money they're not going to refund anyway. ..so that's £57 in total just for someone to press a cancellation button...
Very timely that you mention this, Loz. I did a double deal with Bennetts a couple of weeks ago (previously posted) and included my 2011 with the SP. The 2011 is with MCE until 24th April, but I chose to just let it run for fear of exactly what you've just encountered - the added fees. If worst did come to worst, I think a company would be hard pushed to disallow a claim simply because in the 'turmoil of moving and personal distress' you hadn't gotten around to advising your change of address. The only impact address change would have on the policy (in my view) is if the bike was stolen from the new address. As an important note to all members/readers, beware that your policy might contain an 'auto-renewal' clause. I have just phoned Bennetts to remove mine - and noted name and time/date details. I abhor the audacity of these organisations presuming that we will renew! I have no problem renewing, but not via an arbitrary price flung beneath an auto debit. We must take the opportunity to review the marketplace before committing, and as most on here have shown, a 'fresh policy' is often cheaper than a renewal. Bastards!!
I know you speak in jest, but I'm sure @Lozzy will agree that it's not the money; it's the principle. Lozzy is actually loaded and 32 quid is merely a week's Spam Fritter money.
Or one GB Racing cover which I'd gladly buy and GIVE to @bazzashadow to spare our eyes from those monstrosities he's got on at the mo
You can insure a bike a month in advace. Get the quotes from the normal places and then ring them up. If they won't do a deal tell them to cancel auto renewal, and let them know your change of address by post, Royal Mail can be very unreliable at times you know Chances are you will be fine, they did a change for me mid policy without adding the admin fee.
