So, took my 2017 blade in for its first annual service today. Went to pick it up this evening to find the mechanic leaning over it, bits all over the floor. Doesn't look good, I thought. It isn't a Honda dealership, but I've used this guy for all my servicing, tyres, etc for last 5 years. He said it was all fine until he left it idling for a few minutes before taking it for a test run. It started to idle quickly and then died if the throttle was opened. Now it's not idling evenly and the throttle doesn't repond at all.

Any thoughts other than 'you should have taken it to a main dealer?' I've had that one myself. :(

Long shot but sounds similar to my mates when the dealer hadn't drained the tank when having the tank seal recall done. Found there was still water in the fuel.

Bike had other problems in the end but after the fuel was sorted properly it ran well

Not too sure on this, but I think members have spoken before about a vacuum tube that's often left unplugged beneath the tank. That would be my first check.

I can imagine you weren't best pleased, but can you imagine how fraught the mechanic must be, thinking hes broken it!

Hopefully it gets sorted soon :)

Huh? Stuff the mechanic's feelings. The only feelings he should have are those of guilt.

If we take a bike to a professional technician, we expect to receive it better, not worse, after its servicing!:(

I've got my bike back. The guy dropped it off in his van. He said he disconnected the battery for half an hour then reset the ecu with a diagnostic tool. He took it for a run and it was fine apparently but I fired it up when he left and I'm not sure it is quite right. The revs don't seem to drop away as quickly when the throttle is closed. Maybe I'm just being over sensitive I'll see what it is like when I get to ride it again.

I doubt it. We all know how our bikes usually sound and perform. Makes it very easy to know when something's not quite right.

I hope a bit of a 'B' road burn might fix it!!

I rode into work this morning. The bike generally went fine but the idle seems a little fast. At the end of a 30 minute ride it was idling at around 1750.

That's where electronics stuffs me. I wouldn't have a clue how to fix that. I'm guessing it's done through the ECU.

Of course those of us who hard 'carb' bikes just wind a screw back half a turn and job's done!

I seem to remember reading a thread about air intakes, if the mechanic has taken the air box apart for fitting the filter, something could be causing it to leak or there is a hose fallen off, have a quick look, shouldn't take long.

That's probably a little low, did you use the annoying numerical rpm display on the dash? I believe it is supposed to be 1200 +/- 100. At 1750 mine is way out of spec.

Erm, 1200 minus 100 IS 1100:D:D. I'd prefer it low than high anyway. 1750 would annoy the crap out of me!!

I don't use that flickering numerical display; mine's set to avg mpg.;) (Helps me save £££s for my next bike)

I can do the math. 1100 is in the range but 1000 isn't

The numerical display is annoying but it is useful for this very thing. Next time it's the turn of your SP2 to do 30 miles give it a go.
