What is the deal with all the casual homophobic references in the fb motorbike groups?

whats the deal with Suzuki riders all being gay (allegedly)

everyone seems nice and friendly on here, and i like it here, and nobody has said i shouldn't be riding a fireblade because I'm gay!

this sort of thing alienated me from bikers (not everyone likes being called a biker) for years

who knew heterosexual men had such fragile sexualities!

anyway, i shall be riding my blade tomorrow, fabulously as usual, with plenty of flair and flamboyancy

Bollocks to it mate. I had a lad on my section in Iraq who was gay. He never imposed himself on any of the lads, he was a very professional guy and a valued section member. He was switched on and I would love to know how he is doing now.

Apologies folks ‘section’ is an 8 Man infantry team, led up by the section commander Corporal (Charlie fire team 4 Men) and the 2nd in Command Lance Cpl in charge of the other four Men (Delta fire team).

and i work in a steel factory, and am the only gay person there. I just dont get the negativity around it that warrants it being used as an insult

I ride a Suzuki and I am not gay ;)

I grew up in a time when it was normal to parody gays, was in the Army when it was illegal, and over the years have told many jokes that would get me in front of HR in the modern era. Now a days I really don't give a monkey's what a person's sexuality is unless they try and enforce thoughts and opinions on me.

Moral of the story, ride what you like as long as it is legal ;)

It’s not a personal thing mate, that type of banter has been going between the two brands for as long as I remember(30 years) gsxr owners think the blades an old nail and slow(not to far wrong) the blade owners think the gsxr is a rusty heap.
I always filter from the fb group as there’s a lot of bell ends on there who thinking they know a lot.
Just ride your bike mate, enjoy it and don’t worry about them

im not talking about the banter, thats always gonna be there between brands and stuff, but, almost everything is centered around using being gay as an insult.

I wouldnt want to socialise with a group of people who think being gay is such an insult.

Blink what you have to realise now is that being Gay is no longer an insult. We see blokes kissing on Coronation street these days (way before the watershed). I even had to explain to my young sons why there was two Men sharing a bath on ‘four in a bed’ the other day (1600 hours, 4pm). So what are you getting at? We in the heterosexual world are being very accommodating.

well, we all live on the same world.

being gay isnt an insult, saying its gay to ride a suzuki is, because you are taking something negative, like saying suzukis are shit and then comparing it to being gay. Thats the insult

To contribute to this discussion, there are only two openly gay members. There could be others.

Further, there seems to be a trend in the LBGT community to flaunt their sexuality in a manner disproportionate to the heterosexual community. One only has to look at the many Gay Pride marches/processions that in essence say to the community: 'We're proud to be be gay (or LBT). Why is that? Why is there no equivalent hetero march? From that, we see the kind of remarks you (blink) speak of, because 'indifference' (to use that word to set aside one from another) tends to attract attention.

I wonder if people maintained their sexuality to themselves, or simply did not broadcast it openly, might we see less of the opinionated flak now so prevalent?

Its also a bit strange that there are only two gay members here, I wonder why that is[/QUOTE]

why do you think it's strange mate? do you think it's because of the type of thing you have seen on the fb group? which is full of the so called im a hard trackday know it all rider type who from a certain era and find it weak to show any feeling's i would say anyone would find that off putting but dont think that would be the reason any gay person would not ride a bike!
i know plenty of gay men/women and having worked in the fashion industry surrounded by and working with a lot of gay men/women can honestly say not one i knew/know or came across showed any interest in the slightest of any of my bikes in fact i got innuendo about the leathers/helmet but then complete disgust about the so called greasy petrol side of it.
maybe just not a lot of gay men/women interested in the sport or bikes
    just my thought/experience/opinion!

    Fu## me
If some one says i’m A white cu##
    I don’t take offence
I say “at least I’m useful”
There is to much pussy footing around things
Grow a pair and put up with it, get over it, we all take insults on the chin.
We mean nothing by half of what we say, we are what we are.
Get on with life and ignore what people say. Stop bleating on,
    I’m gay, I’m black, I’m coloured, I’m a lesbian,well I’m chalky but do I care

well, straight people flaunt their sexuality all the time, far more than gay people do, you just dont realise that you do it.
The reason for pride marches is because there are no countries where its ever been illegal to be straight, but there are plenty where gay people are routinely executed, or tortured to death just for being who they are, and Brunai has just introduced stoning as punishment for being gay.

and the two members here that are open, its a point and i wonder if some stay quiet about it because of the reaction, i really dont know, just think its interesting. I do know some gay people that avoid it because of the perceived heterosexuality of it all

im also not taking offence, nobody has insulted me, just wanted to discuss it and calling you a cnut isnt the same as calling you by a name that insults you for something you cant change, and 'white' isnt an insult either

Call a lady 'white trash' in some parts of USA and you'll soon know whether it's an insult or not!;)
