Lever guards, yes or no

Hi all,
So been having a chat with my mate at dinner about lever guards, on track yes i can see why they are used, but on the road why would you use them, apart from just to add a bit bling maybe, or am i missing something and need to get some

 

I'm with you. They'd have no use for me on the road unless Romano Fenati was on an end of season UK holiday.

I could see an advantage, perhaps, for commuters who might do some very close filtering, or Sunday riders who get close and personal in a pack. They'll never be on my 'to do' list.

 

I'm using the carbon r and g one, purely for looks and I didn't pay full price.



They dont even look that good to be fair, plus it makes it awkward getting out the garage as it's that bit wider lol.

 

How do they work with the bar end weights though, do they have to be removed, if so do you get any increase in vibrations?

 

Yeah. It looked like a bit of a pain to fit, luckily I had someone that had done one before so he done it for me. I thought they just slotted on the end but it's a bit more involved!

Not noticed any vibrations since doing it.

 

for racing, a brilliant idea. For road use I would say just for show but you never know when it may come in handy like Nigel said, filtering or maybe even riding in large groups with unfamiliar riders who may do something unpredictable!

 

Or 'accidentally' catching the flimsy top of a buxom lass passing by

 

From experience, one doesn't need lever guards for that!

 

Your new SP has the Gilles ones if I remember correctly @Lozzy ...they look nice IMHO

 

They're great for holding the shopping on your road bike, but get in the way of the ratchet straps when transporting a track bike

 

Yes but stops you hitting the brake on the garage and dropping the bike

 

downside is you gotta remove the internal bar weight which means more vibration on the bars
it's like why would you need winglet for the road or fake tits on pornstar; guess they just look good but pointless

 

They feel a bit weird tbh...maybe because I'm not used to having them... and I can't help but feel folks will look around my bike nodding approval until they get to the chicken strips and go what's the silly bint doing with all a that lot on then lol

 

Must admit my blade is the first bike I've not managed scrub the whole tyre in on don't know if it's how I ride it or it just out handles the rate I ride at, but every other bike I've not had any chicken strip but the blade is around 5-8mm left and 3mm right, brakes my heart .
As for lever guards, they look crap if someone's that close to your lever, punch them

 

Your not supposed to hold on to them

I was thinking of taking them off but the way things are going south I might be able to rest my t#ts on em
