This is a bit of a tale. When i was growing up, my dad had this small box with a London address on it, full of medium format negatives. Now he is no longer with us, I have this box, and have just scanned them all, so for the first time since (probably 1967), they have been viewed. My dad went to Art College in Ipswich, and he studied photography. He mentioned a bike rarely, but nothing much about it, I don't really think these are pics of it, and its not him riding it. Still, I like the photos, so wanted to share them with some people that might appreciate them
Thanks @blink. Sometimes, good family history comes too us when it is too late. Never was a history of biking in my family. My grandfather was killed in a bicycle accident one months before my parents married. As a result, I wasn't even allowed to have a bicycle until I was 14, and then when I wanted to 'upgrade' to a motorcycle (CB175) I was nearly disowned. All came good in the end with dad going guarantor on finance for my bike, and later enthusiastically followed my short-lived racing pursuits.
no history in mine either, just lots of moaning about it. My dad said he was surprised i had taken it up, but wasnt around for me to pass my test and upgrade. He had a policy of never disapproving of anything his children did. my mum hasnt seen the pics but doesnt think its my dads bike to be honest, Im just sad that I cant talk about the photos with him, now that they can be seen properly.
id say, yeah, wouldnt be surprised, but i really dont think thats how he worked i can remember him telling me a story, he left an old motorbike in a coal house, and the council charged him £50 to get rid of it, he moaned that it was worth more than £50. This was before they bought their first house, so must have been in the early '70s, i think he might have said it was an old BSA can you tell what the bike is in the photos?
Great photos. No helmet laws in those early days....my old man raves about riding with a beret instead of a helmet
I'll have a guess.....BSA C15. Interested to find out for certain though as that is my guess after 15mins of googling and not based on any knowledge.
@blink , there are many BSA of the era late 50s to mid 60s that look very similar but of varying capacities. I think it is a 250cc C15 of approximately 1960. (pic below) There was also a B40 of very similar appearance but as a 350cc.
Presuming that is a pre 1963 dateless registration number too so no way of knowing the bikes age from that.
the BSA logo on the tank matches better in this one on eBay now https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1964-BSA...255027?hash=item3d8b5edcf3:g:6z4AAOSwN3lcl-NX
Think you'll find the eBay bike is a much later model. Twin cylinder, double cradle frame, dual separate instrumentation, rubber fork protectors, more modern headlight mount and rear sub-frame etc.
