I have been following this topic on the other forums for a bit now, just to save me jumping around the US and other 1000rr forums, do you know if woolich support tyre size/aspect ratio on their ECU tune yet? I am waiting for mine to come off the Honda extended warranty before flashing, personally, I am not fussed about wheelie control thing/ABS but would be nice if they can basically clone the 19+ECU interface to make them work on 17 ones as I believe the IMU is the same, also TC by IMU instead of wheel speed sensor with map improvement.
Unfortunately (for what ever reason), Woolich have not been able to enable the Calibration Interface (we can all see the Sport Kit menu stub in the street bike dash) and I don't think they ever will. I offered to pay a several of thousands of dollars for them to start a custom project to expose the Sport Kit Menu, but Justin Woolich deemed it to not be a commercially viable undertaking. Honda's official stance is that the SC77 does have a Calibration Interface - in the HRC ECU. They see no reason to run non-OEM sized tyres on the street bike. Pretty arrogant of them isn't it? As for the Wheelie Control menu options, they are exposed by the Woolich software so you can change the fixed WC level associated with various TC levels in the 2017/18 bikes. Woolich already have support for the 2019 ECU - Thailand version is already in the database, more to follow.
Listen to what you were saying - you were still discussing bike colour in January 2018 and did not take delivery until February 2018 - tyre sizes being an issue was not mentioned until a chap from Korea mentioned it in April 2018. Most road tests of the new bike had been done by then - Bike World July 2017 - Fast Bikes SBOTY July 2017 - MCN April 2017 ............ But mostly I object to you being very rude about the very brave, talented hard working and capable TT winning Mr Rutter.
I just hope to the gods that there’s a glimmer of hope for us poor folks getting some kind of help from someone with this major issue, All I bloody want is a working blipper and some traction control to work properly with a 55 profile tyre.
Exactly. I have to believe you are just being obtuse for dramatic effect. Colour? There is only 1 colour for a 2017 SP2 - which I ordered in March 2017 and had been expecting to take delivery of in July of 2017, but Honda delayed the bikes in the US. My bike was built in September 2017 and then sat at Honda of America until February 2018. I had no need to discuss colour and by July and August 2017 I was already discussing the on track and street results that SP1 owners were experiencing. The first few blokes already noted odd behaviour and we looked at who had positive results and who had negative results - By September I already had my HRC Kit Manual and was able to compare cam specs in the Service Manual, which I already had on hand, to the specs in the HRC manual. By October 2017 I also had my early access copy of the HRC ECU setup software & manual on hand to begin dissecting the various control tables and menu options. I even had an early copy a blank setup file. Once Woolich had cracked the stock ECU around October 2017 or so I was already playing around with the ETV tables and when comparing to the tables in the HRC manual began to understand exactly what Honda was trying to accomplish. By then Honda had already began spreading the lie that the SP2 would have the Sport Kit Menu option and that is partly what the delay was. I reached out to Ten Kate for confirmation that this was not true and never would be true. By that time I was already on first name terms with the Ten Kate WSBK team management - and was discussing progress (or lack there of) with the development of the MotoAmerica Broaster Chicken bike. By the time I and other SP2 buyers took delivery of our bikes we knew what the problem was, we just needed to confirm it with our own hardware and now needed a solution - at first our hopes were pinned on Woolich unlocking the Sport Kit Menu, I even donated my HRC ECU to the cause for them to try crack. But in the end we came to understand Honda has only 1 solution they support - the Stock bike needs to be on OEM sized tyres and sprockets or you install the HRC ECU with Sport Kit Menu Calibration Interface and you lose the Ohlins, ABS and street harness. In short, I know what the heck I am talking about with regard to the technical aspects of the SC77 street and HRC ECUs. I am willing to bet money I know and understand a damn side more about the system than the likes of some moto journos and yes, even Mr Rutter. All of which seemed to have been done with THE WRONG SIZE TYRES on the SC77. Again, he said he was scared to go fast on the SC77 because it might crash. Quite a bold statement to make - so bold we need to understand the context. Right?. So again - I am stating if he is basing his comments on a test conducted on a bike with the wrong size tyre that clearly has no facility to calibrate for tyre size changes, then he is full of it.
When I have time I will read through all of your posts from 2017, because I am sure you did not share the above information on this - a Fireblade forum. You keep calling me obtuse - obtuse is not really me - I do not do obtuse. But OBSTINATE - I can do obstinate 'till the cows come home - I have a big chunk of obstinate in me for sure. Anyway late for work already......
Feel free to read anything you feel the need to. I have been sharing this info with anyone willing to listen - I was also absent from this forum for long time periods between March 2017 and now - but have maintained contact with the appropriate people. I believe all you will discover is I am arrogant opinionated jerk
I am sure once that’s cracked, either Woolich or simple plug and play device add on like power commander/heal tech device, everyone who ride properly will have one for the freedom of tyre profile. Honda copied this nasty trick from KTM where all the hardware is there and you need to pay to unlock it or just get you to fork out for another ECU. Out of interest, do you know will plugging a HRC sp2 ecu on a base bike work? Or it must work with HRC loom? I guess for some of us poor bugger this might be the only way to go
I have spoke to the dealer again today and he said he has a list of 12 other customers not including our 3 bikes that have all raised this with him, he again has hassled Honda U.K. and Honda Europe and at last has had a reply saying they are looking into it. I know this is probably clutching at straws but I got to keep hassling them. He said ring again 1st week of June and see if there’s any progress. I know guys it’s a long shot but if we all sing from the same hymn sheet!!!!!! Power to the people
I'm only playing devils advocate here so you don't need to lynch me...... but......what's in it for Honda not allowing access to the calibration menu? If the software is already written and it would make the Fireblade a better bike aswell as appealing to more people why wouldn't they open it up? Isn't the Fireblade struggling enough as it is without easy fixes sitting locked away inside an ECU? Seems to me, either there's more to it than just the @RC45 theory (I will remind you of my devils advocate statement at the top). Or Honda are a bunch of stubborn buggers and don't want to release the calibration menu because they're arrogant and Japanese. Japanese firms are notoriously stubborn and principled (first hand experience).
You would think that wouldn't be cost effective. Selling a few HRC ECUs wouldn't make up the shortfall of failing to sell entire motorbikes because of poor reputation/bad press coverage.
From what I have been told, Honda got worried with even more bad publicity from the possibility of customers inputting the wrong tyre size and then having the same faults as we have got now if we put the 55 profile on. So they pooped there pants and locked it? Poor us
