Hey all, Turns out a straightforward MOT, wasn't. Apparently the rear wheel on my '08 blade is distorted to the point that it's an MOT fail. I only bought the bike a couple months ago, and don't remember nailing any potholes, but entirely possible. Anyways... I don't fancy forking out for a brand new set - has anyone got any recommendations for buying wheels second-hand? My worry is that I'll buy a used set off ebay and they'll be as knackered as the current ones. Doble's Honda in Coulsdon have said they'll keep the bike in as long as I need them to, but I'd rather not be without the bike too long... Guidance much appreciated! (Also if anyone has a set lying around that they want rid of, a PM would be lovely!)
There is a bloke Notts way that can straighten them. He does lots for BSB teams etc and may be a better option than buying a new/used one.

Thanks mate I’ll give them a buzz. The service guy at Honda said they were too distorted to repair so I’ve not holding much hope. Ruined my plans of fitting all those carbon bits this weekend!
I would not rely on what the dealer says, race wheels get damaged all the time and need straightening. They do wheels and brake discs all the time. Give one of them a bell and see what they say.
You should be able to collect the wheel and take away for repair or disposal Problem is with main dealers they have you over a barrel, I’d pop in and ask them to show you how much it’s distorted and how they measure it
Just gave these guys a call and they basically guaranteed they can get them straight enough to pass an MOT. £120 plus VAT at top end if they're bad. Yeah it's a pain! I told the dealer straight up I won't be buying a brand new wheel, and they were okay with keeping the bike in their compound for the time being, so at least it's not like they're trying to squeeze money out of me. I've not done much spannering on this bike - i presume a TDC clock measures how much it's out of true? What's an acceptable figure? Trouble is the blade is my only form of transport other than a bicycle... Still, I may do borrow a car, go have a look and maybe take it across to motoliner.
If your wheel is that buckled I'm amazed you have not felt it tbh. It often has an effect on the rear brake also as the disc wobbles through the caliper.
Right?! that's what i would've thought! I don't remember hitting any potholes big enough to cause it, and I've had into 3 figures without noticing anything (on private roads of course Mr Copper). I've only been riding it a couple months but even so i'd hope i'd feel something...
I learnt long ago that MoT technicians are like doctors. (I used to require doctor's certificates for sly days off) Some will give you a full examination. Others will cut to the chase and give you a certificate. I learnt to source a good doctor.
Haha unfortunately the bike was in for a service with the Honda dealer and needed an MOT as well so i was constrained in my choice of MOT tester!
So within limits then. Even by their own measurement. I'd pay for the service then ride elsewhere for MOT.
