Engine oil recommendation from your guys is needed and link to the oil on your website for: 2006 2ltr Zetec running twin 45's carbs running Omex Ecu for cards only. Standard 2ltr with no internal changes yet. Only 2000 mile on the engine which was run in for the first 1000 miles. brand new crated engine in a tiger Supercat kit car. 90% road use 10% track Temp between 90 on road and 108 on track I need to get this in the next few weeks for the winter service and over haul of the car ready for the start of the season
I would use a really good 5w-40 synthetic. 5w-40 engine oil | 5w40 oil Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. Cheers Tim
Hello and welcome to the forum, looks like you have been giving out some great advice to people and can possibly answer a long standing question I have never had answered correctly. I have always wondered which is better fully synthetic or semi ? I use Castrol Power One (semi) 10w-30 as thats what the Honda dealer always recommends to me and advise's against fully synethic but he cannot back that claim up with technical facts so I was hoping you could shed some light on the subject if possible.

Hi Hope you can help. I have a 2005 Fireblade, completely standard coming up to 6000 miles. I would like to do my own oil change but am unsure as to what is best t o go for. I do the odd trackday and fast road ride... Any help would be really appreciated.
Hi I'd use a 10w-40 10w-40 bike engine oil The best oils there are the Silkolene Pro 4 and Comp 4, Motul 300v, Redline, Amsoil*and Castrol Power 1 Racing. The Motul 5100 and Silkolene Super 4 are good cheaper alternatives, although I'd probably go for one of the better oils if it's getting track use. Cheers Tim

Hi Oilman. I hope you don't mind me asking but why have you recommended to "2big4myblade" 10-40w oil when you recommended 10-30w oil to Remal ? I m guessing the reason is something to do with temperature but I would genuinely like your expert opinion as I try to learn more on this subject. Thanks again for all your help.
Hi From the information Remal gave me, his bike is a 2011 model, and 2big4myblade said his was a 2005 one. According to the database that we have, the recommendation from Honda changed in 2008 from a 10w-40 to a 10w-30, so that's part of it, but I doubt they actually changed the engine much - the revised recommendation is more likely to be due to Honda trying to make the bike more efficient. Either 10w-30 or 10w-40 is likely to be fine in both bikes, but with the 2005 bike likely to have a fair few more miles on it, a 10w-40 is a more sensible option as it's a little thicker when hot and there are a lot more to pick from. With the 2011 bike, I went with a 10w-30 as just in case it has any warranty issues and Honda want to be awkward. Cheers Tim
Cheers for the reply Oilman. To be honest I had been using 10-30w in my 04 Honda SP2 as that whats the dealer always recommended, I did'nt realise it was for 2008 onwards bikes. I need to service the SP2 so would like to take your recommendation on which oil. Here's the bike details. 2004 Honda SP2, 10500 miles, Fast Road only no trackdays (use the Blade on track) only engine mods are flapper valve disabled, race exhaust with custom map putting out 134 bhp at the rear hoop whcih is not bad for a 12 year old design v-twin. If your bike is getting on fine with the 10w-30 ie it's not burning much, then I'd probably stick with it, but go with a quality one 10w-30 bike engine oil Out of those, the best one is the Silkolene Pro 4, but the Amsoil, Castrol Power 1 Racing and Silkolene Comp 4 aren't too far behind. By using a good quality oil like that, you'll get just as good protection as using an average quality thicker oil, but it lets the engine run a little more efficiently. If it gets a fair amount of track use, a 10w-40 is a better idea as it's just a little thicker. Really it depends on what you want out of the bike. A 10w-40 will give the best protection, a 10w-30 will also protect well, but only really for road use where it's not getting as hot. If you want to squeeze every last bhp out of the engine, go for a 0w-20, but factor in the cost of a rebuild every year or two. Cheers Tim

Hi Rob You need a 15w-50 oil and our selection is below 15w-50 bike engine oil The Silkolene Pro 4 and Motul 300V are two of the best oils on the market. The Silkolene Comp 4, Shell Advance and Mobil aren't too far behind. The fork oil is a bit odd in our listings. I'm getting two values, either 5w or 20w and I've tried a few databases, they all say the same. 5w light-weight fork oil 20w fork oil As you mention yours has the Ohlins, I guess there are two fork options, but unfortunately i don't know which oil is for each one. If you need a 5w, the Silkolene 05 Synthetic Racing fork oil is the best, followed by the Silkolene RSF, Motul Factory Line, Redline and Castrol. The standard Silkolene, Motul and Shell ones are fine for normal use. If you need the 20w, the Redline is the best option, but the Motul and Silkolene are suitable for normal use. Cheers Tim
