Just booked on the annual RAF Waddington airfield track day. I've meaning to get on this for some time, but you need to know someone stationed there in order to get on. £85 for a open pit lane in the middle of summer can't be bad. Proceeds go to charity as an added bonus. https://www.weezevent.com/evenement.php?id_evenement=407974&id_page=425900
Just received an email to say that the price has now dropped to £65 due to cost saving as a charity event. That's a crazily low price for an open pit lane day.
This part might be tricky for some people, Shane as it's only about 2/3 miles from me but I would have just got back from Europe trip. "To take part in this charitable event all civillian participants must be sponsored by a current MOD employee."
Yeah basically you need quote an MOD employees details who will vouch for you not to blow anything up...
All set for tomorrow. Only the one bike, but wets at the ready just in case You on this one @SimonRR ?
Don't look at the speedo! Guy on a ARD did that at Odiham last year and smashed in the back of someone breaking hard. They restarted the day after about 3 hours when the air ambulance had done their business.
I plan on filming it though Failing that, I run GPS on the bike. I can get the data from the Racechrono App.
Careful with the phone, in a crash the screen can shatter and glass makes a right mess. I'm not trying to be negative!!! Have fun.
Back from an enjoyable, yet strange track day. I've never been on a track along side pillions, a sidecar and where you hold your top speed on the limiter along a 2 mile straight. All good fun, only a few spots of rain, the weather stayed good until pack down. Videos to follow.
Did you change your gearing for that straight? With that huge rear sprocket you had last I saw you you must have hit the limiter at 160
You're not far off. I'm +2 on the rear & standard on the front now, although the speedo is well out. Here's the onboard video from just after the sighting laps, still learning the lines and which gear to be in. Jump to 5:20 & 8:20 if you just want to see the straight.
Out the front of the bike. A guy had clipped a cone @ 1:44, causing a fair amount of damage down the side of his bike. Fortunately I missed the cone @ around 160mph as it wasn't where it should have been...
