I'm replacing the passenger seat on my Fireblade but can't get the new seat to click closed. Got seat on ebay and appears to be exactly the same as the old one. Tried for 30 mins to get it to close gave up and put old one back on, the old one fitted first go. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks
Is the new seat unused/as new compared to the old one? I take it its a seat not a cowl? It's just I've found any new seats are sometimes a pita to click in compared to a well used one...nothing wrong with them they just need a bit of welly pushing in
Are the rubber stops all in place? ie are the old ones stuck to the bike but the new one has them on seat? Can you post a pic?
It's a used seat off ebay but like new, will try hitting down harder. Noticed when tightening the bolts the seat moves up slightly maybe need to mess about with how much I tighten them, but doesn't matter with old seat? If all else fails can I try bending the hook further down so it connects?
2001 929 have given up now another half hour today put in spacers etc nothing Measured old hook 24mm my new hook seat is 23mm I'm embarrassed to have to go to the garage tomorrow but nothing else I can do No big surprise actually cause nothing has worked out for me in the last 8 months- the universe wouldnt even let me put a bloody seat on my Blade Sub consciously I thought it wouldn't fit cause I'm starting to get used to this crap Seriously replacing a seat two bloody screws Unbelievable
I'd come and have a look if you were local ..its sound like something small is causing you big issues
Any chance you are North county Dub?? If so, I could swing around and we can both fail to put it on! LOL Seriously though, I'll be passing Rush, Swords, and north city on my way home tomorrow evening if it helps?
If this is any help, when I installed a pillion seat cowl on my 929, it met some resistance. I loosened the screws that secure the long locating hook so it could 'self centre' itself into the latch. After that I merely tightened the hook screws.
Thanks for replying really appreciated but Think seat is defective literally I'm 100% perfectionist Is 954 seat same as 929? Have I been sent wrong seat but I haven't cause codes on ebay seat are same as old one Going to garage tomorrow will let you know
Nigel to the rescue. People laugh at me for having a few bikes, but in this instance there is merit because I can provide a definitive answer. Yes, the two seats are different. I have just photographed mine and you will see the area around the hook is totally different. Pics show the difference as a pair and then as labelled 929 and 954: Below: 954 left - 929 right Below: 929 Below: 954
BB, 'he' is mistaken. Definitely not the same. I have a 929 and 954 and have gone through the exercise myself of fitting seat cowls. The pics are of my own pillions seats. They are not interchangeable. The moulding around the hook area is completely different.
Really appreciate all replays and meet ups to help me but it must be something silly Don't think I've been sent a 954 seat will post photos in the morning, to me they are exactly the same Forest for the Trees etc When the hook doesn't connect means it is not close enough so I have to figure out how to push the end of seat (taillight end) closer to the catch but have tried can't figure it out? But through experience and everyone should mark this I haven't given Feedback on ebay yet for this seat even though I got it about 5 weeks ago, so won't have a problem returning. Used to give Feedback quickly but learnt not to, Sellers can be hard to deal with if you have already given them Positive Feedback Welcome to human Nature
First can I recommend BBC Podcast '13 minutes to the moon' especially episode Episode 11 just 13 mins of live audio to Neil Armstrong down to moon surface I actually got a bit emotional at the end We as humans can be amazing but total bastards aswell go figure Ok all now good went to local car mechanic this morning he had a look at it and said you need to see why the hook isn't connecting take off the rear light and have a look. Actually pretty obvious when you think about it! Not rear light cause he didn't know bikes etc So went to Haynes and disconnected two rear bulbs took off two seats and rear cowling so I could see what was stopping hook from connecting. It was about 10mm of plastic on the underside of the seat, took hacksaw to plastic and put everything back on and it closed perfect I was pretty amazed. Think maybe my bike has had a bang in the past on the rear oh wait I was on it at the time! So maybe a rear frame slightly warped Anyway thanks for all your help See photos
