A very subjective question, but one I thought would stimulate good discussion.

I was out on my 929 this morning and I feel it is the best of the bunch. So light and nimble and the power-to-weight ratio must be very close to that of the later 1000cc bikes. In fact, if someone wanted a second bike as a fun bike, I would highly recommend a 929.

Had a 2013 Repsol Fireblade didn't like it far too small for me and hated the brakes now have a beautiful 929 (my second) amazing bike perfect for track days touring everything For me this is the best also think it's the prettiest Blade hands down

The 954 is a much better bike than the 929 for looks and performance, the 08 I would say is a close second to the 954 it’s only the build quality that holds it back, but everyone has their own opinion

It’s like most things from tyres to exhausts! One mans love is another mans marmite

Most share that view. That's why I always feel indifferent by claiming the 929 is better. And having both at the same time makes the comparison very simple.

Fully agree with you though, that what suits one will not suit another;).

    Impossible question to answer.

Best blade on track? Best blade for fast road rider? Best blade for commuting? Best blade for touring? You may be able to gain consensus on questions like that, but trying to say best overall is never going to be unchallenged.

I think in pure terms of performance and comfort, my 2008 is the best I have owned. (Not ridden the newer ones, so can't comment if they get better).
I think most people found the 2008+ bike uncomfortable on long distance 250 mile+ spins, but for me, its way more comfortable than my 2005 bike.
That said, the 2005 I thought was the prettiest of the Blades that I have owned. Something about that missile shaped nose, and I had the twin laser cans, she was gorgeous. Unfortunately the bugger that nicked it must have thought so too...
I never got on with the 929 for some reason, I have no idea why, but there was something that I just didn't click with 100%.
And then there was the 1998 CBR900RRX, my first Fireblade.
She was fat, a little ugly, and I loved her to bits! Still has a very special place in my heart.

Great post @AndrewQ , and a very interesting appraisal from one who has owned a few Blades.

I always knew this thread would uncover a multitude of different opinions, and as said is both subjective and an open-ended question.

Here, I am totally opposite to you in my view of the 2005 versus the 2008 - 11. I have repeatedly said on here that I find the 05 much more comfortable than the 2011 so far as riding ergonomics. Of course I don't take issue with you; I merely highlight these respectful differences of opinion.

And then to the 929. Again totally opposite.

This poses a very relevant question: Imagine if we were both reporters/journalists for competing motorcycle magazines and we were called upon to test these bikes. The public would read both and think to themselves, 'WTF are these guys on about?' They don't agree on friggin' anything.:D:D (Perhaps the public already experience that from some of today's biased reviews:rolleyes:)

The 954 is and has long been my favourite blade ever, although I've never owned one..... I did look into owning one recently. One day I will and hopefully I'll come across a mint one, best shape ever even by today's standards. For now..... I'll have to make do with this ;) IMG-20190628-WA0006.jpg

Quite happy with mine. I owned a Pani V4S, traded it on because it lacked the character my SP has and now have a brand new S1000RR that I've decided will be a track only bike because it just doesn't hold the same sway as my SP.
