I reckon it's that poor taxi driver he abused in Sheffield that's put a combustible onion bhaji under his bonnet
Too long in hindsight. I originally though it had just popped a water pipe and bellowed steam as it was a hot day. Of course. The gearbox is automatic, the car parks itself, has automatic headlights, even brakes if someone steps out in front of it. Why the hell do I need to indicate At least the didn't rate it Funny
Update:- So 6 weeks on, BMW took the car away for inspection and in their words, "forensically took it apart piece by piece to determine the cause". They said that it was down to the EGR cooler which had a manufacturing defect, causing it to overheat, which then set the engine bay on fire. The fire then kept on re starting because of multiple shorts when the loom melted and as the battery is in the boot no sign of that stopping until the battery is either disconnected or explodes. The upshot is that they have accepted full responsibility, had arranged a hire car for the last 6 weeks, and are providing me with an almost direct replacement from their used car network (below). Dunno how I'm gonna get my trackday generator in the boot of a saloon, but it does have Apple CarPlay, so I'm happy
I’m sorry muffking but I would not settle for anything but an estate or as you bmw drivers like to say a tourer Play on you nearly lost your life in a fire and stick to you guns or take them to court You will win
It's already a done deal, I've accepted it. Seems silly not to. I gain a 1 year newer reg, 12 month warranty, full dealer service history, plus Active cruise control, Harmon Kardon sound system, heated steering wheel, power folding mirrors and Apple CarPlay. Although I lose memory seats, heated rear seats, reversing cam and self parking. I don't consider myself any worse off.
Might retro fit them. £800 on ebay and the ecu for it is under the drivers seat. Just needs power, which might already be there as the current seats are heated.
Glad things are going in the right direction and as they’ve admitted full responsibility your insurance will be unaffected as you’ll not need to make a claim against your policy provider. However, as has been said, they owe you an estate (not a saloon or coupe - unless that’s now your preference) sod the music
I didn't think of this. What are they doing for the inconvenience and trauma you suffered? I would get an attorney and sue them back to the stone ages.
Better service on the cars than my mates s1000rr....top end gone going to strip down the engine on the 19th of this month no offer of a loan bike from dealer so he's now taking it to head office...
I have something called Bimmercode that can do that Funny you should say that. Someone lit a bonfire round my way earlier and I instinctively went to check that the BMW hire car wasn't on fire They offered me £500 for stress & inconvenience. This seems to have been loaded on the deal with the car which is £15,500, so I guess they valued my car at £15k
