Hi Gents, Just got myself a Blade. It’s a stock 2012 20th Anniversary edition with 20k on the clock. It’s mainly going to be for track day use but I might do some road mileage on it too. I live in Jersey (Channel Islands) and our speed limit here is max 40 mph, but some of Europe’s finest tracks are but a 90 minute ferry journey away so not all bad. Going to strip it down over the autumn to give it a full monty service and a bit of TLC as it was used daily as a road bike. Anything common to look out for at 20k mileage ? Valves will be checked at the service and I’m going to get the forks overhauled, maybe by Maxton as they did a great job on my R6. Anything common I should address when it’s apart ? Cheers in advance, Andy.
Hi Andy, welcome to the forum (although I’m a very junior member having not posted much, I’ve found everyone very friendly and helpful). Not trying to be pc, but there are both ladies and gentlemen on the forum - all of whom seem much more knowledgable than me about motorcycles! Enjoy your blade - non ABS version?
Hi Andy and welcome. Looks a nice clean ride. No 'common' probs come to my mind, although converting it for track will make it a whole new beast!
Hi and welcome...I had no problems with mine at 20k and well beyond including valve clearance. Only thing that can be a bit iffy on them is the cct but you usually hear them rattling when they've started going. Bit hit and miss with them, some members had to replace after only a few k but others didn't.
& Andy - if you are going to track it and the current fairings are decent I’d be tempted to swap them for a second hand or Chinese set and flog the OEM’s. There’s always a market for quality original plastics.
Hi and welcome! Nice bike you've got there. Best of luck with it, nothing but the CCT comes to mind as far as things to look for goes.
Hi Lozzy. Glad to hear they hold together long after 20k. I’ll probably replace the cct when I service it if there’s any rattle from that area. Thanks.
I bought a set of CRC race fairings for my last track bike. They where well made but came in a bare unpainted Matt black. Some of the Chinese jobs seem good value considering they come ready painted.
Lots of traffic here in summer but it’s not too bad on an in-line 4. My Ducati 1098 is a different story lol.
Hi Andy - really didn't think you were, just wanted to let you know there are some very knowledgeable (far more so than I) ladies on the forum. So your blade on Jersey is equivalent to owning a Ferrari and only driving around in Central London - I guess you'll be living for those track days! Hope the bike performs well and lives up to your expectations. Enjoy!
