Hi and welcome to the forum Andy! If you do change the fairings don't sell the OEM's, only a fool would do that!! Keep them for the future if you decide to sell the bike on, it'll be worth more to you in as near original condition than it would with tatty race or Chinese fairings on it! On that note, there's no evidence to suggest that Chinese fairings will melt, I did a track day at Oulton on a scorching hot day and many days out road riding in similar weather and they held up perfectly. Ignore @nigelrb...... His bike never gets up to high enough temps to warrant such bad advice anyway...... I think he just sold his blade with Chinese fairings on and got next to nothing for it after selling his OEM's separately....... Madness I tell you!!!
Hi Andy. I responded to a query about track fairings with an account of my own experience. I would not make such a bold statement about fairings 'melting' had I not been able to provide the required 'evidence' that is said to not exist. Further, no members know the temperatures that my bike attains, whether it be track days or sitting in traffic. Another misrepresentation to be corrected is that I did not sell my Blade after selling OEM fairings separately. I did though, sell my 21,000 mile 2011 Blade for £5400 which I felt was a reasonable price in the current market. I later sold my OEM fairings for £350.00 which might be cheap, but they were stone chipped along the front faces. In total, I received £5750 for a bike that in the current market was a tad cheaper than some, but certainly not 'madness' and I price I was happy with. But back to the required 'evidence' of melting. You will note severe discolouration of the red 'Honda' and brownish scorch marks beneath. Also on the left side (barely noticeable) the panel has warped and folded in along the red stripe. The final pic shows the product as I received it, thereby offering clear support of my earlier assertion.
That just looks like dodgy Chinese overspray to me.... that or you've not correctly applied the heat shield! Hang on a minute, that's not your kitchen floor..... There's no way you've got that much free space with all them bikes in the house! Excuse us Andy....... It sometimes gets like this
Precisely why I posted pic of the original unpack so members could see the clarity of finish. I actually overdid the heat shield to a tad oversize of the OEM black insulation. I am not being critical of these for nothing. Most will know that I heavily applauded the quality of these for both fitting and quality. However, like all product, the truth is in the longevity and performance, and my view is that they are a nice decorative item, but not a product I would buy again. However, this is yet another case of each to their own.
