any recommendation on a helmet that is less succeptible to air turbulance and cross wind And better still quiet inside??
Shoei X-Fourteen (X-Spirit 3 for you lot) It has stabilizers on it that keep it steady and it is fairly quiet, but tends to get noisier when all the vents are open and you are going full trot. Love mine!
I thought the aerofoil on the rear of the Arai was just a gimmick, but it really does work. But I would recommend try before you buy, as I've never even tried on Shoei let alone ridden in one
Schuberth S2 Sport. They are the only Manufacturer to have their own wind tunnel, others just rent out time at other ones. It's the most stable lid I have owned, even at autobahn speeds. It's got a front chin spoiler as such to remove lift, little aero marks on the visor to stop headsway as well. Plus so comfy.
And yet few people buy them. Few people race in them. A mate of mine bought two. I saw him a few months later and he’d sold them both. Even though he’d raved about them and was trying to get me buy one. Why did he sell them I really don’t know but I’m glad I didn’t buy one. Do you have one @Stuish ?
Yeah I've got one, got one around Christmas time. Done over 6k miles in it, had an XR-1100 before and prefer the schuberth massively, so much quieter. I think people just associate them with the flip up lids or policemen. The SR1 is a full race helmet whereas the S2 is a sport touring, so quiet. I dont wear earplugs and have a RaceFit without a baffle..
As a sufferer of tinnitus I'd recommend earplugs to anyone matter how quiet you think your helmet is. Tinnitus isn't very nice. Earplugs every time. Like the helmet itself, earplugs should be compulsory
My challenge is not quietness but stability in turbulent air. In my view most design focus on straight ahead aerodynamic. Throw in some side air turbulence and they start wobbling around; I’m not talking about the fit. My budget is <£300. Anyone using shoei ryd or aria debut?
I have used the Shark Spartan for 500 miles and in all honesty I've felt zero turbulence so far. Always use plugs but fit and function is great and even though it has the sunscreen slide controller on top it is totally waterproof. I got caught out one day in the glorious Scottish Summer and was bloody soaked about 50 miles from home. My head was the only dry bit by the time I did make it home.
thats the helmet I have, while i have nothing to compare it to, other than a motocross helmet, after four hours of riding, my ears are ringing for the rest of the day. I can, however, look over my shoulder without the peak of the mx helmet trying to rip my head off my neck
I had an x spirit 2 before the arai I have now and it was just as stable. Seen them for around the 200 quid mark a while back. Great helmet for the money. As others have said, the newer version will be better and in other areas too you would expect but they are generally 400 quid plus. Few people have the x lite carbon helmets. Often spoke of in high regard.
2nd ride out today wearing my new Xlite Carbon, the tight cheek pad issue that I had on first wearing has gone, I'm very impressed with the fit, finish and visibility, helmet seems very stable at speed and with ear plugs pretty quiet . One happy convert to Xlite
Useful feedback. Is yours 702? I’m also going to try aria debut & shoei ryd back to back. Must say the aria felt so comfy which makes me think perhaps my head is less narrow than I thought
settled on from louis moto X-LITE X-702 GT. bought 2 sizes to try out reduced to £149 (black carbon finish only) but hey beggars can be choosy and used a €50 discount voucher finger X
Got the helmet. Unfortunately the fit wasn’t suitable for my head which is a great shame. It is a lot of helmet for the price (£150). Very well made, good ventilation, light, pin lock and internal sun visor.
