We are all ok, we all worry about that slow speed drop pulling away from a packed bike meet. Even the top bike racers are worried about it, they get their pit crew to wheel the bike out and point it in the right direction before they mount and ride it.
I’ve posted this before, I was at the ice cream shack on Porthcawl seafront which is the biker hang out for a brew or an ice cream, I finished my cone, got on the Street Triple R which was facing one way, gave it a handful whilst leaning it the other way and the front promptly came up as I’m pulling off and trying to steer the bike at the same time, the front wheel touched down and I’m off like a scalded cat in front of quite a few people and my brother in law who was behind me said it looked quite impressive and like I was in total control literally bending a wheelie, when I was there thinking fuck me that was close after almost losing the front end!
When I first started riding I pulled up to a junction up near the Scottish borders and there was 2 other riders stopped at the side of the road having a chat. I wanted to turn right but you end up stopping at a weird angle facing more left than right. I had it it my head that I wasnt going to make this right turn from where I was, but didn't want to let on to the guys watching me from the side. I ended up putting the side stand down and walking around the bike a couple times prodding random parts as if I had noticed an issue. This allowed me to get back on a roll it back a bit to give more clearance around this junction. What a penis
Another one from me, had a 2or3 year old ZX6F3 a couple of years after passing my test, I’m in work one day contracting at a local factory where I’ve been able (following getting pally with the security guy) to take my bike on site when everyone else has to walk to the security lodge and then walk to the car park before they can leave. Cue 10 or so guys finishing their shift and heading for the gate. Not wanting to be last out of the shed and have to lock everything up in my full power rangers garb I rush to get changed, jump on the bike and scream across the courtyard to the security gate, kick down the stand and get off the bike to badge out. Unknown to me when I forcefully kicked down the stand it had sprung back up and I’m laying there under the bike to the roar of laughter from the guys who have to help me get the bike off me!
Had an incident on my Crosstourer. Heading off on a long trip loaded up with luggage. Pulled into petrol station to fill up. Locked off the petrol cap and go to lean he bike over onto the side stand - all 300kg+ of it with full tank of fuel and luggage. Got to the point where I should feel the stand and then realise I haven't flicked it down. The bike continued to lean and by that time I wasn't holding it up! Cue bike on the side with me still astride it. Took 3 burly blokes on the forecourt to lift it up and allow me to escape. I felt such a total cock!
