Bought a set of full lenght black levers from sportsbikeshop last week & got them delivered today (clutch lever was out of stock) & delivery to ROI takes a bit extra. Fitting was easy as per instructions, but I had an easier time fitting chinese levers to my Gixer1k as I didn't have to add break light,oddities etc. ASV quality seems high, but so did the chinese stuff. Am I missing something here? Is it kerb appeal? ASV against non branded stuff? I do like my ASV's, but not worth the extra €200 premium. IMO
Ooh, you're taking a bold move with this post. I am one who purchased 'Bad Dog' (Chinese) levers last year for my 2011 Blade. My ears are still ringing from the flack, and eyes still watering from the anti-Chinese lever You Tube videos!! I can't help agreeing with you though. The prices do seem so disproportionate!
My arguement is: I can but 10 sets of chinese levers for the cost of 1 x ASV They seem to fit the same & do the same thing. Yes my ASV levers do look cool, but what else?????
Think some chinese are better than others but my first and last intro to cheap chinese levers was the amount of loose play in them, they were shocking Ive gone ASV everytime since Also when buying a bike ... previous owner puts £30 levers or £200 tells me enough from the pics
Looks can be deceiving. If the Chinese parts are for aesthetics sure why not, but if the brake lever has flaws it may not function properly or worse case may break. For that reason I went for AVS.
Wider range of adjustability over the Chinese product. (A fact that didn't concern me because once set - end of story)
I dont think I could trust it. It might be wrong, but I just wouldn't feel safe having something so crucial to stopping be so cheap.
My 1st and only dabble with chinese parts and never again. Front brake lever tolerance was out by a gnats gonad and ended up binding the brake on! Bought ASVs and i’m a happy bunny Have to agree with shutty can they be trusted to work when you need them most? As mentioned your bikes your baby and worth every extra penny for the best Did I have to put an Oberon on? No. Did I want to? Yep! Like do I buy a Seiko or a Tag?
Yes, I agree with that. Exactly the same reason I purchased a Citroen C1 instead of a Merc or Beemer.
It was the bit in bold I was referring to Nigel (well some members obviously find it acceptable as well as funny )
interesting opinion I guess if at the end of the day you can see nor tell the difference, then why not save some money. but then again it depends how critical, sensitive or fussy the person is
As with most Chinese parts they are well made but do check while fitting they fit how they should do. some require a little fettling
As an engineer it would be interesting to find out where the raw bar/billets come from that the likes of ASV etc use for their levers. Most metal now comes from China. In fact with a few suppliers I have used you have to state if you don’t want Chinese. Regarding machining from my experiences first batches are spot on, subsequent batches are normally sub par quality wise. Of course it’s up to each individual with their requirements and budgets etc
