Hey all, I'm getting back in the saddle after a few years off. I decided to stop lurking and join in. I've been doing a bit of research for a new helmet and came across this guide: https://bikerrated.com/sharp-5-star-rated-helmets/ - do you guys worry about SHARP ratings? I seem to remember an ACU sticker was all you needed when I last bought a lid but should I get a 5-star rated one this time?
Any of the new helmets sold now must comply with HSE requirements. Lot of mixed feedback on the SHARP ratings but google has a lot on it. Try here for some good deals; https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/797
Firstly, Hi and welcome to the forum. As for regulations, I always go with a DOT/SNELL helmet..but I am in the US, so I am absolutely useless in this conversation (and most others if you ask @nigelrb ).
Hi and welcome. I wouldn't get too bogged down in safety regs ....just about all the branded lids available from reputable retailers will meet the minimum standards required, particularly if you go with an ARAI, Shoe, HJC, Shark, etc. etc. Someone's already posted the link to Sportsbikeshop, you could do a lot worse than getting most if not all of your kit from them. Good luck
I don't worry about SHARP and you don't need ACU unless racing. As long as it is CE approved the main thing is fit. Welcome BTW
Hi and welcome. Good to read that you're interested in safety standards rather than the best way to roll up your hair beneath the helmet!!
Lol....well that's got a bit of clickbait on someone's website....from the blokes as usual.... Durrrr
I know I am repeating this, but all the points you ask are covered in my blog which I did post here. You need to read the full blog which comes in 4 parts. http://www.motorcycledirect.co.uk/m...why-we-wear-helmets-and-how-they-are-made.php http://www.motorcycledirect.co.uk/m...-should-I-buy-and-how-much-should-I-spend.php http://www.motorcycledirect.co.uk/motorcycle-direct-club/blog064-keep-your-lid-on-part3.php http://www.motorcycledirect.co.uk/motorcycle-direct-club/blog066-looking-after-your-lid.php The original post I made is here https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/lid-life-span.36377/#post-474703
Sadly, I think @newgirlrider has been scared off. Then again, could she have been one of @Lozzy 's alter egos? Sort of like out with Di and in with Newgirl.
Erm, there were not 4; only 3. That is tantamount to saying that Elizabeth Taylor had 10 husbands. As you will know from your service career, Mr Spy, the depth and level of training does not determine the length of duty in the field.
I'm surprised Nigel's not a broken husk sat in a mens hostel staring at the holes in his tartan slippers.... In fact....has anyone ACTUALLY seen Nigel, his house and bike collection in person
