When my bike was dyno'd the guy had surgical forceps attatched to to a couple of hoses so i'm assuming mine was done correctly too
Great advice cheers Arthur that explains things. My thinking was if you stop taking air out of the air box it was similar to putting more air in I.e a high flow filter but its obviously not that simple. Thanks for the advice.
Iwas asking my pal and FWD about this and the air intake flaps and smoothing intake tubs he said both mods have no gain what so ever for power!!
Air intakes on the Dyno would be hard to see power gains, however..... I run autotune and have done a lot of testing with it on and off the dyno one of the big advantages of AT is ram air, what I mean by that is the dyno has no way of giving max ram air so mapping the bike with 175mhp head wind is not easy unless you have AT! My bike always leans off the top end even with the bike running a base map of 13.2:1 AFR you would think it would add fuel to a leaner mix but I am 99% sure that Honda's OEM ECM/ECU adds fuel to take into account the ram air factor, Honda will not give out any detailed info on the fueling of the ECU its just not the done thing by Mr Honda and dealers...well they know very little. Anyway AT does self map with max ram air and an open air tube will flow more than one that has flappers etc etc etc so I would say there is a gain but seeing it on the dyno...not easy unless in a wind tunnel with 180mph head wind a hard job for the man sat on the bike....lol In short I think you will gain power but maybe only 1-3 bhp...ish.... RR4-7 is another matter as the air intake is under more presure than 08+ imo, so with HRC air intake on older RR's I would say you stand to gain good power IF you have mapped it or run AT.. Just my thoughts..
Good points but surely the flap is in the open position when on full chaps ie not really restricting air flow so i cant see the point of ripping it all out
I agree mate for what you gain in power... You know how it is some people just can't help it...lol When you think how much air goes through the system how much more would you get with open air tubes and a stock motor... Does make life much easier to remove side panels off a new blade though Nuttys done a fine job on hers..
i guess HRC or Honda UK know jack all then, because theyve never dyno tested or designed straight intakes. I know of 4 or 5 superstock bikes that saw gains with a few little touches like that added...
A gain is a gain how ever small I do all I can mate on my own and customers bike however small, right down to the last rub of the file... When I said Honda dealers know little CC I mean the run of the mill have you questioned one of late some struggle with the simple things... I know as you do that all the little things add up to a whole package, my point was only to the road user who already has masive power on tap... Saying that mate I like as much as I can get....lol
You don't happen to know of where I could get or do you sell the HRC style ram air duct for an RR6/RR7 ?
No mate I did see your thread (two others wanting) for the intake.. I have gutted them in the past but does take some time worth while and near as good as the other CF intakes.. When buying mate be sure its a good one as some used to put load on the fan and cause a problem, like anything there are good and bad what that you get a lot of choice now with the 07 - 04 Use a hacksaw blade to gut the whole thing but leave the middle stress member in place then use a blade to get the last bits and a blow gun to melt any small burrs of plastic to get a smooth intake.. works well
Cheers Art ... yur not wrong . I can remove my side panels wothout needing to disturb the air tubes . As standard its a major pain in the ass . How Mr Honda arrived at that design is beyond me . Its over complicated in an extreme way on the 08 onwards . Too many little clips n screws
Gromets/Bungs mate and only one from memory on the 04-07.. Dont think it would matter too much if you left it open as its at the bottom right front.
thinking of getting these Kyle Racing RC51 smog block off plates - Welcome To Kyle Racing's Online Store Some great discussion and advice, cheers guys I m glad I started the thread
Go for it ... they are cheap and you will get more space to change ya plugs and loose a decent amount of weight
Hi all, Just read this post wit interest.. always good to learn more about the oily bits! I thought the pair valve and the air put into the exhaust stream also had an effect on engine braking, don't some of the super bikes run a more advanced set up just to tune engine braking? If so would we notice any difference when we block it on the road bikes? Ozz
