I know this maybe a bit of a poor choice of topic at the minute but I’m genuinely interested in who thinks they are worth it, or not and reasons for and against. I’ve had 4 in my time, currently have one on retention (not decided wether to put it on the car or bike) umming and arring wether to get a second or not. I know some people see them as pretentious but genuinely for me it’s something I plan to own for a while. My grandad had one (came from a BSA) and my dad has one too, I guess I see it as carrying on the family tradition but something for my children to have when they are older and I’m gone. don’t get me wrong, I can’t afford to spend thousands on one so I don’t have a desirable one, but the right plates can earn you money over the years. thoughts?
If I am honest mate, I have got one it’s not on my bike at the moment. It was a good idea at the time but on reflection wish I hadn’t of bothered. I guess it is like catching a dose off a high class whore. It cost you a lot of money but no one really wants it off you.
I've co nsided one for the car but it's always one of those things I think can wait till I've got spare funds but there is always more important things cropping up! Bike would be a waste of money for me as I never get to sit on the thing these days
If the right one came up for my bike I’d have one like a shot apparently SP14 HRC is on a bloody Peugeot of all things
I have one on the bike because it is just 5 characters. Nothing special, just my initials and not that pricey.
I tried to see if it was available on cherished dvla plates but no luck so tried MOT checker and there it was
Problem is with a lot of them people get greedy. I’ve been scouring the fb groups and people are asking for plates (that are on DVLA website for sale) and people are offering them at 2-3x the price. When I bought my latest one it was for sale at £750. I offered £500 and got a call immediately telling me the seller had knocked back offers of £700. I said don’t waste your time putting my offer to them then! Got a call back 5 mins later - they’d accept £600 needless to say I got it for £500 a week later. Persistence pays off!
I know you should not be doing anything wrong on the road but i feel with a private plate people remember them better when grassing you to the cops
I agree with you there, same with brightly coloured cars... I had an orange one and yellow straight after
I have one on retention that I had on BMW 3 series coupe about 4 years ago, I've since had it on a Land Rover discovery. It was a gift from my dad and while at the time it did a great job of hiding the age of both vehicles even though they'd both pass for newer...... I haven't felt the need to put it on either my bike or my car as one is 12 month old and one 6 months old. So yes for me a private reg is purely to hide the vehicles age...... Even though that's not the reason my Dad bought it for me....... He's always had them.
God I loved this car...... Absolute minter, plate numerals mean nothing, last 3 letters are my initials! My Dad all over..... Wrote his initials on everything in black marker pen..... Sometimes even on things in the fridge to stop me nicking stuff haha
You are spot on with your assumption. I can still remember a few now from days gone past DR S1C was on a Mercedes the owner being a Doctor. Easily identified when he was involved in an incident There are a few celebs who have come unstuck with theor personalised plates. It was one of the few times we did not worry too much about he re-arranged spacing as it made it so easy to identify and even members of the public were aboe to remember the numbers. Personalised plates are a great tool in assisting the Police track down the naughty brigade
My son has R6 APV he has a bright custom R6 and his initials, he got pulled for undertaking a cop car as he joined a dual carriageway, making good progress. the cops said he flew past them and they were going 70. he also had a Racefit and small plate, but due to clerical issues i got the case dropped. they were not happy, it took quite a few emails. I told him he was now a marked man still has Racefit and small plate
LOL I've had M66 KRT on a ZX10r Tom Sykes replica, which is now on retention, thinking of putting it on the ZZR !!
I don't know the full story obviously, but what offence did your son get reported for in respect of the undertake? Bearing in mind that no such offence exsists and why was the Police vehicle hogging an outer lane? I can suspect as to why that particular offence was dropped
I've been bought one of these for my birthday. Shows how hard I am to buy for when it comes to getting a reg plate as a gift To get plates made I need to send a copy of the letter. V750? Do I need to blur any details out? Its says you shouldn't scan or share a photo as someone else can use it
