Does anyone know if a Cat N (Non Structural Damage) bike needs a new mot to go back on the road ? The bike still has a valid mot for another 6 months and the only damage on the bike was cosmetic scratches and mirror.

That’s a good question Naz, I don’t know the answer unfortunately but am interested to find out the answer in any case! What I can say is my old RR7 was cat N in April and has been back on the road from two weeks after my accident (someone else bought it from insurers) and hasn’t had a new date on MOT from reg check records so maybe they don’t? Hopefully someone can confirm soon?

I’ve been told by the insurance I need a new mot, not sure if the person knows what they are talking about or if it’s to see that the vehicle has been put back into a roadworthy condition. It’s annoying but i guess insurance companies are irritating like that. Said the bike is not covered until this is done and checked with the underwriter if the premium increases. So if it gets nicked and you bought it back off insurance your not covered!

Totally agree with you mate, my renewal has gone up £1k and they paid the guy I hit £6k for personal injury for pre existing conditions
