AFC 50 is good but like you my hesitation is that it is a good penetrating fluid. Whether it gets passed the O rings into the sealed grease lube of the chain, remains to be seen. I would recommend XCP rust preventer (or blocker) which is safe on chains. Ideal to keep the rust away. Tthey also do a chain lube now but I suspect it will fling a lot more than wurth.
I use this on the bsa after watching it on YouTube I spray everything but mainly the forks as they are just steel This seems to stop the rust https://www.amazon.co.uk/Double-TT-...t=&hvlocphy=1006964&hvtargid=pla-816451805262 But I do not get a white deposit
ACF-50 will affect x/o-rings after time, it also removes glue from electrical tape. Seen bikes develop weeps from oil filler caps due to the o-ring swelling and tape on electrical connections becomes useless. It is great stuff when used where it's meant.
Oops I put some on yesterday...it's only whilst it's winter months....do you think I should clean it off and stick some of the XCP on instead?
I think you'll be OK, it's prolonged liberal application that I've seen cause issues and it takes a while (months) for the problems to develop, especially where it's been used and left without being wiped down after.
Cheers mate....I've only ever put it on the usual parts over winter. It'll only be on a few months if that...
According to ACF50 instructions. “ACF-50 over spray will not harm any rubber components but saturation of "natural rubber" in door gaskets and window seals or harness gaiters of old cars or motorcycles (40+ years) should be avoided, as this may cause the rubber to elongate or swell.” Think you’re chain will be ok.
Think you should be fine @Lozzy Modern elastomeric seals are mostly nitrile based so not like natural rubber...so it all depends where you are spraying it at
I've just fitted new chain and sprockets and yes chains started to spot up with rust . ill try and remove this weekend and put some acf on.
also I agree with @mk3golfcab . our muse @Lozzy has said lube penetration and rubbing. I am a weak man and now must be alone for some short time.
A lady can never have enough lube in her lady cave @Gravel trap .....I've just ordered my summer supply in anticipation
Ive been using plain wd40 on my chain for a while now and it's looking better than ever. Wipe over with wd40 damp rag after each ride. Doubt it would work for a commuter or high miler but 100 mile ride every other weekend it seems to work well.
My chain is reaching 25k so replacing when the weather gets better. Whilst the weather is still shite going to give this a go, I've only heard good things on this forum and the www in general. ACF is running out so will buy some XCP rust blocker too (gonna miss the smell though!)
