    Bemoto don't make you go through that nonsense...they just say in the event of an accident any aftermarket parts will only be replaced by oem. I've never given other companies who've asked the full list either...only usually the can and a few other bits.

    My friend used to work for Hastings, and he told me a story about how this chap wrote off his car by putting it into a ditch, a brand new Impreza, and they refused to pay out as he had changed the radio headunit and not told them.

    I don't declare things like levers, but with the exhaust I did. Just to be on the safe side, Bemoto didn't change the price at all.

    I’ll declare the exhaust but that’s about it. Finally got the figures for the payout for my 5mph hit.... £15odd k! Guy got me for £6k for personal injury when I hit the f**king car! Note to self, if ever in a non fault accident go for the f**king works! Absolutely bloody crazy!

    It is worth bearing in mind a couple of things.

    If you have a crash which is not your fault, it does not matter a dam if your bike is modified or whether you have notified your insurance company because you are claining off the third party insurers, and unless they can prove that the modifications contributed directy to the causation of the crash, they are stuffed.

    If you do have mods fitted such as a slip on, most OEM parts are a lot more expensive to replace than aftermarket, so you can make a few shillings out of it without being fraudulent, after all the insurers are the one who insist on paying OEM parts.

    There has to be a clause in the small print of the policy telling you what their policy is on mods. If they are safety related mods, it makes them look rather stupid and strengthens your case if it were to go to trial and they were found not to be covering a bike that was considerably safer than in standard trim.

    If it is performance enhancing, then I go back to the point that they have to prove that the mods contributed directly to the cause of the crash.

    If the crash is your fault and you injure someone or damage property, then again, unless the (the insurers) make it clear you will still be covered third party which is the minimal level required to cover injury and/or damage to another.

    Most of the insurance companies make up the rules as they go along maintly because they do not have a clue about biles and assume that any mod equates to going faster or riding dangerously.

    The bottom line is if someone hits and injures you, then the other side are banged to rights regardless of whether the bike was modified or not and you told your insurers.

    Even if you failed to notify the insurers in a non fault crash, your compensation cannot be reduced unless once again the modification provided a contributory factor (which I have rarely come across) and even then, any deduction for contrib would be minimal.

    Its always amazed me how insurers come up with their premiums. My zx10r was £97 fully comp with 400 excess full no claims . Yet my car insurance can be stupid. Yet its £500 for my car again full no claims etc.
    1 of them can nudge 190mph and 1 of them can't

    I can only think it's all down to personal injury claims. Car Carrie's a risk of 4 injury claims and the bike non (no pillion cover)

    Ref car insurance. We went from a £2000 toyota celica to a £300 Ford focus .the covervforvthe celica was £300 ..,the cover for the focus was ,£500 .
    The reason was they have more claims on a focus. Agreed due to volume of focus compared to celica on the road. But you also have more focus covered that haven't claimed due to the same ratio.. but apparently they dont take that side of it in to account.

    Yup its totally sodding mad.
    I just got my 2018MY SP so of course rang insurer to arrange switchover from zx10.
    Now this is a classic. Yes it's a 2018MY but was brand new, unregistered. If I registered it on 01st March on a 20 plate it was an extra £230 for the balance of 6 months cover. However if I registered it on 69 plate in Feb it was only £130 to cover it.
    What effing difference does that make to the risk?
    Needless to say it sitting on a 69 plate as that sort of bollocks makes no difference to me and as its pcp the resale makes no bleedin difference either as I fully intend just handing it back.
    Insurers really just make shit up to get a bigger premium.

    Whilst the crash for cash scams do account partly for an increase in premiums, it has little to do with personal injury (although obviously there is cost) but more the cost of repairing and/or replacing vehicles because everything is based on OEM parts which are astronomic.

    The 2nd element is that the insurers do not actually understand the market they are servicing.

    I was quoted double my (at the time) current premium because it was made quite clear to me that the IAM pass was the highest in the land and outstripped my Police class 1 and advanced instructor qualifications..

    So when I asked what was the minimum qualification required to examine for the IAM and RoSPA the young lady I was speaking to accused me of changing the subject as it was not relevant. So as a parting shot I suggested that maybe she ought to check facts befpre making such comments.

    In fairness, she did phone back to apologise and reduced the premium by about 75% but it was still much more expensive than my renewal premium.

    Just recently a friend of mine (who is as qualified as me) had a damage ony crash in his car which was the fault of the third party and which was caught on dash cam.

    He was held liable despite the evidence to the contrary and when questioned, the claims technician dealing with it was arrogant enough to tell my buddy tat as a motorcyclist he (the technician) knew far more about road safety, the law and crash investigation than my buddy ever would. He had no evidence to back this up other than he worked as a claims technician and when my buddy told him what his background was said claims technician told him that he still did not know what he was talking about.

    Suffice to say this claim is now subject to a complaint but in the meantime his premium has quadrupled as they have paid out the third party.

    Last point, is that if you see something dodgy, it is rare that the insurers will actually flag it up as suspicious. So a lot of fake claims are being paid out without redress back to the client despite what you might see on the telly.

    The insurers are the root cause of the problem, not personal injury claims (we actually only pay out about 2% or what could be claimed and we as a country are about 20th in the world table)but the insurers have very few specialists in the areas they cover and see road users as a risk period and so will load premiums in the knowledge that the majority of policy holders will pay the increases without question or just accept there rules such as admin costs.
