I have a mate who collects old tamiya rc cars . he's got 30 odd. he knows I have my childhood kyosho raider and as he's pulled out his 1st tamiya hornet and said let's get them going and have a race once covid is over . all the other kids at my local rc club had tamiya or Schumacher cars and took piss out of my poor raider so challenge accepted time to right past wrongs . I've had this thing since my 12th birthday so bloody 31 years now I've got a new battery cleaned up old transmitter and god dam it she runs. speed controller sticks ceramic resistor cracked a shock is broke tie rods are shot rear tyres done for but I'm going to strip clean off childhood dirt and replace whats needed. oh I need a raider shell too. I fitted a Sierra cosworth one and alloy wheels when I changed to saloon car class at around 14 years old. I painted it to match a cosi I'd watched race at caddy when I was with my dad who raced karts in the 80s. I'm stupidly excited about fixing her up.
Love the shell, I’ve dabbled in RC, had nitros and most recently a Tamiya drift chassis, got bored with it after a little while but would love to get back into it. Tried planes too, worked out horrendously. I’m not a pilot.
never had a plane always wanted one .I'll admit I've been watching a load of rc drift . I care not for full size shit but like the rc stuff. I d like one. pics please @mk3golfcab
I dabbled too, my brother started off with a Tamiya Hornet and started racing at a local club. We are going back more than 30 years ago here...... Anyway he advanced onto a 4 wheel drive Kyosho optima and wiped the floor with everyone. He then converted it to two wheel drive and did the same again in that class! Wanting to follow in his footsteps I dreamed off Tamiya Grasshoppers and Tamiya Fox's. Think there was one called the Wild One as well. Anyway I never got one but about 10 years ago I bought a Tamiya Gravel Hound and built it from scratch, loved it! Painting the shell and adding the stickers. Drove it through some dog shit on its maiden run and on its second run through a salt water puddle while out on Cockerham sands End of that!
your brother @PauloHRC sounded lime the man . an optima ohhh nice. I've spent all day looking up kyosho parts to fit. raider was hornets rival but worse front steering so I'm modding mine . I've got to beat my mates hornet. he has 26 hornets a couple of midnight pumpkins and lunchboxes. he knows his stuff. it's shocked me how much old rc stuff goes for on evil bay.
I haven’t got any anymore. Was a bloody good laugh though, and surprisingly hard to keep it going and not just spin out, hard compound tires was the main difference. Think sold plastic almost. I had an RX7 she’ll
I want a Subaru pick up shell one. it's the car I learned to slide as a kid on our farm . but it project raider first. that pesky hornet is getting swatted !
This is really weird. My son asked what he should do with my old Tamiya TA-01 Lancia that has sat on his wardrobe for years. When i showed him what they sell for, he’s suddenly found a desire to strip it and clean it to its last bolt tonight and mint it. Unsure if he will sell it once done but its cleaning up well.
that's cool I've just told Mrs graveltrap that the raider chassis and subframes are going in the dishwasher tomorrow. she rolled her eyes and said if the plates smell like the last time you put bike bits in their im buying some new crockery. fuck knows where we are going to keep a crocodile but I'm looking forward to walking it. love my wife.
