Well....it appears, thanks to the old coronavirus......that I am exceedingly dirty indeed... I'm not a massive hand washer, having grown up in the 70's generation where the only shout of Get yer hands washed before yer come t' table was usually at teatime.... So it's been out of the ordinary me getting the soap out after I've been to the shops.. So when this all started I came back from the store on the blade...went to wash my hands...and the soapy water was fairly brown coming off them... I thought how have my hands got so dirty! Anyway forgot about it......but then the same thing happened a few days later after being on bike. And I thought....I wonder if my bike gloves are a bit dirty inside...so I had a sniff....slight whiff of spam fritter circa 2015 maybe....but not too bad Then I realised that I've never ever washed any of the gloves I've had or got and some are getting quite old now. So in the interests of science I have worn every pair I have since then and the top 3 for nuclear filth coming off during hand washing are the Halversons and Astars in joint position ( about 5 to 6 yrs old) But the winners by a mile are the good old vintage rst's...the water was nearly black I did look up how to wash bike gloves but lost the will to live Maybe that's why I'm rarely ill....a bit a muck never hurt anyone as they used to say Anyway....there's always loads of threads on cleaning and OCD...but this one is about the mucky lot... Can anyone beat my gloves
Never washed my gloves either, my hands don’t come out brown mind, but we don’t get spam fritters down ere!
Mines have been washed several times. Regardless of having hipora linings, gortex or whatever I have never found a pair that can withstand Scottish rain and stay 100% dry
Gloves take a while to fit nicely These were black originally. They have been soaking wet many times and dried on radiators, hot engines towel rail things in hotels - dried to a crisp ! then soaking wet again ! Sun and sweat as well hasn't done them any good either. The velcro doesn't work - but they fit perfectly so not keen to change them. Should do really. Rev'it.
Look like a souvenir from Christmas Island Mattie lol... I've a couple of pairs where the velcros gone including those minging rsts but I just superglue them shut
I wore them (in the rain) to the 2019 TT on my R1 - at 135 mph at least. But agreed they need changing
As much as I clean the other stuff, I don't clean gloves , apart from my Gerbing ones - but they're full leather so I Nikwax'd (cleaner and conditioner) them. For the others I give them a wipe down if they've got dead insects on but thats about it, and febreeze if they need it. The gloves normally die (stitching or waterproof liner fail) before they get too bad although I do have a retired pair of Richa Winter gloves which were quite offensive to the nostrils
If anyone wants to practice cleaning gloves (and leathers, and boots (not helmets though - I polish my own )) let me know
Can't say I've ever washed a pair of gloves myself. But I could be sure mine wouldn't turn the water brown Always knew you were a Dirty Bugger @Lozzy
Best not leave your lid lying around on any of our ride outs now.....I'm going to enjoy wiping my bare sweaty tootsies around the inside lining
