I've spent nothing lately but have started looking at new helmets. AGV sports modular popped on my radar most about £300 down from £599. Just anxious about buying on internet never having worn a flip front?
Ordered my screen two weeks ago (£45 and £10 Posting) on a Thursday and it arrived the following Wednesday and fitted within the hr. just ordered the hugger yesterday for £75 but word of warning its not for the SP ABS and will need a little dremel for the ABS wiring, but for £75. Both from Maidstone, this was doing the rounds 2 weeks ago on the SP forum. Given its Honda pricing not the dealer reducing, i know how much profit is in these kind of things and it isnt this much i can assure you, this is just a clear the decks exercise ready for the new model. now to decide on the GiaMoto rear sets .. eek
Get it from Sportsbikeshop if possible because they'll price match it pending its a shop in the UK and have it in stock. You can try it on at home and return it as long as its un used etc and the protective film on the visor hasnt been removed I've got one, flip ups definitely have their place in the world. Its not something I'd think of if riding a sportsbike though to be fair. Good for petrol stations or going to the shops (although my tesco still insist on you taking the helmet off, yet the local HSBC is fine with it ), good for touring when you have a quick stop etc to get some fresh air. I used to have to go through security points at work (its nothing exciting) and that was the main reason I bought a flip up as it was an absolute faff taking off glasses, gloves, helmet etc each time, especially when there is a cue. The helmet itself isnt bad, actually full carbon (including the chin bar) unlike the other ones out there where there is a carbon shell but a composite/non carbon chin bar. The visor is fantastic, one of the clearest that I've used and it's nice and thick and feels strong and rugged. It's VERY well ventilated, which in most cases is a bonus, but something to definitely bare in mind if riding in the winter. it is intercom friendly and I've been able to fit both a Sena 20S and a Interphone Tour in mine (not at the same time obviously). Negatives, some of the parts on the helmet feel a bit cheap and flimsy. Mainly the chin vent cover and the spoiler on the back. I'm not overly confident on them and actually have the spoiler permanently wedged open as it makes a huge difference for me with regards to wind resistance. I had to return mine to AGV for repair as the release lever for the chinbar got stuck in the open position and I couldnt actually close it. The press stud used to tidy up the excess strap has come off, I've spoken to AGV and apparently it needs to go back to them to be restrapped instead of just attaching a new button. This one is a fair use one I guess, but I've used the helmet in two winters now in all weathers. Through normal use on the road and wiping crap off the visor whilst riding, the visor has become really scratched now and to me, is unusable for night time/low light riding now because the view is too obstructed. A new visor is £70 which is an eye watering amount. I've not replaced it yet I no longer have to go through a security check point for work which was the main reason I bought it, so I've reverted back to using my Shoei GT Air. The combination of the scratched visor and the snap button being gone on the helmet has resulted in me shelving the helmet for the time being. I'll definitely get it back out when I go touring. I guess now would be the perfect time to get it restrapped at AGV as well. I should add that I bought it at Motorcycle Live in 2018 and is also my newest helmet. I've had my GT air since 2016 and its going strong, although I have replaced the clear visor because of similar issues to the AGV. I am meticulous with my visor care but just accept that if I'm riding and having to wipe road spray/grit off, it's gonna get scratched. Anyway, sorry for the wall of text and the off topic veer. £300 is a good price though and more of what I think its worth rather than the full RRP., I got mine for £400.
How do you find this stuff at the price reduction there are a few accessories I'd buy but all I can find are the full price on the accessory catalogue ?
@Empty_Ten great bit of info and very useful ,thankyou for the 'wall of text' user feedback always good to know. I've got a shoei at the minute and I've never really got on with it but I had 2 AGV TiTech (?) before that and got on well with them. Need to have a think about it. @Brom66 in finding this stuff it's out of sheer bloody boredom and playing with my phone googling for bargains!
Fowlers are cheaper than Maidstone. Maidstone wanted £75 for the cover and I believe now want £75 for the screen. You can buy the proper hugger for the 17 on bike but it isn't discounted yet. It will be at some point
Well I just got this. Looks like we won't be getting the covers: Hi Alastair, I am really sorry to break this to you but Honda have not been able to find the stock required to fulfil the order we placed with them, so we will not be receiving any covers from them! I am really sorry about this and a full credit will be issued back to your card asap. Many thanks, Steve.
