I should really stay off here on lockdown! Costing me a small fortune with ideas and tricks Right seriously considering a Translogic is4 What’s the general pros and cons between the models in your experience? Does it really make that much difference to your bike? Never had one so I can’t reference anything. I’ve read up on them and the Translogic seems to be the best of the bunch? Also the price tag to go with it but I don’t mind that so much if it performs as it should? It’s going on my RR7 on a road set up with some happy throttle time whereas most I have read up on are 08>. I look forward to hearing some good and bad points (as they will have them).
Hi Daz Don't get me started on HM and their Super Lite QS! My bike is a 2010 model. Just do a quick google and you'll see plenty of units have just died! HM won't repair it and just say yes it's died; buy their more expensive unit. It pisses me off that their mission statement is that there's no moving parts, so indestructible, but it fails electronically! Their brand is so popular. I don't know why they won't repair faulty units either, so must be just out of greed? Surely they can repair a unit they invented? Personally, I will stay clear of HM now. I have a Shift Power unit on my bike now. Too early to say on longevity, but in all honesty, it isn't as smooth on shifting like the HM unit and there is no QS noise when shifting through the gears. I paid £260 for it. My HM unit didn't shift from 1st to 2nd either, but my Shift Power one does. I've heard nothing bad about Translogic, except the price of it, but you're paying for a great unfailing product. And for the CBR1000RR, it's c.£100 more than any other modelled bikes, which I find really strange? Maybe it's because the Blade is so popular? I can't see there being much more technology in the Blades unit! There are many brands out there, but I've heard nothing bad about Translogic and Healtech. Healtech is more affordable at c.£260 versus c.£450 for the Translogic. However, I've heard nothing bad about HM's Plus unit, but that's c.£370. Just giving my view. I'm not affiliated with any QS company. HTH Chin
I bought the Translogic iS4 on advice. It was a bit of a voyage of discovery to fit as I normally pay for servicing but I'm mechanically sympathetic. In use it's unreal, you pull up with your toe and it's like an edited video where somebody snipped out the gear change. Neither my riding needs nor style warrant a quick shifter but I love it.
If you do go for one, BikeHPS are the cheapest I found with their current 10% off. It's a hard thing to get across as to why they are worth the expense, and that goes for all of them as they are a few hundred quid whichever model you go for. You would think it would detract from the experiance by essentially giving the bike an almost semi-auto mode but banging it up the box in the high rpms without moving anything but your left foot sounds and feels brilliant. If your a bit of a divvy like me then you find yourself accelerating and decelerating just for the sake of it It probably says more about my lack of ability/experiance also but I feel more in control of the bike. It's that little bit less to think about and I have more time with my hands where I want them to manouver the bike.
I've had several brands of qs including the hm plus but the translogic is head and shoulders above any of them. Worth the money several times over I think. It's unbelievable to use....I love it. I used HPS like tuktuk and rang them a couple of times with queries....top guys, nothing too much trouble and a great example of how to run a business....so always happy to support folks like this
I’ve got an HM Superlite, it’s nothing special at all to be perfectly honest. No different to the stock QS on my MT10 or my old S1000R, if anything, probably more clunky. It feels clunky to me (and I have tried all settings, it’s still on the most sensitive). As with any Quickshifter though, you really need to be giving it some beans for it to work at its best (5-6k rpm +). On my MT10 I’ve got Woolich Racetools which is a new Gear shift rod and the ECU is flashed to activate QS and blipper. That is one of the smoothest QS’s I’ve used and I’m very happy with it. Just throwing another option out there (although I’ve never looked to see whether it’s available for CBR’s)
I pondered on this subject for over a year and did a lot of research. I too felt it was something I didn’t really need and would probably be wasted on me. In the end all the research pointed to the Translogic is4. I went on to BikeHPS one day and added it to my cart pending more research, a week later on an alcohol induced spending spree I went to check out and it arrived two days later. Amazing piece of kit, couldn’t imagine life without it now. Butter smooth gear changes 3000 rpm and above straight out of the box.
Thanks for all your input guys and gals Very informative and honest opinions as usual. Sounds and looks like the Tis4 is the way to go then can’t be doing with sensitivity settings etc just plug, play and do what I want it to. I’m getting the impression your paying for the “bespoke” set up to your model of bike and not playing around to make it work?
All QS will be set bike specific (plug n play) but with the addition of adjustability to suit each rider. I still haven't messed with my settings yet, but I definitely will do to get the best settings for me, if there are any from the bike specific one already set. Chin
Same here mate, alcohol did it but now its fitted I am glad I did I got mine direct off the Translogic website...and got a free baseball cap, though a woolly hat would have been better!!! Especially considering its been fff’ing snowing here today!
I generally don't use the clutch at high revs , just hook up with a slight roll off . Clutch n blip down but I would like to try one
Thanks for LCR link, I was looking at the Healtech, purely on price and ease of setup. But having listened to Lamp Chop and the fact that Translogic are British and it’ll work straight from the box I’ll go for that one.
