Can anyone recommend a reliable tyre pressure gauge? Or a well made affordable compressor for the garage? What are you all using? Thanks
I have a 3hp ABC from Italy with Draper Expert 10 metre line and tyre pressure end fitment. Fiddly to do the front wheel though. Could really do with an angled valve there
I bought my compressor years ago from aldi. Its been brilliant..I do all my vehicles with it .and use it to clean out and dry things calipers when I stril them.
I had a massive one for the business and have a small tire one but i want to really get some power so I can make a bastard file levitate or spin the s**t out of a bearing
Got mine from Aldi too £50 , 4 years ago .the price had dropped £30 Got some air line and a couple of fittings from Machine Mart . Got a draper pressure gauge with a 45° head and its got a air release button The Aldi compressor was the Same as the Clark from Machine Mart at the time but £80 cheaper
I've got a Draper 69924 gauge which really good as the flexible hose makes it a doddle to use on the bikes. Also got a RACE X RX0014 which is good if you have angled valves as it's really quick to use. If you want a compressor to do your tyres just get an electric tyre pump. A 'proper' compressor takes far too long to get to pressure to be of any use for pumping tyres up imo. If you do want a compressor for tools consider buying a vertical one. You can get large capacity compressors that don't take up much room in the garage. Have had mine for years and wouldn't be without it but have never bothered to do tyres with it.
Here my little set up, bought from a local company with all usual stuff that come with them, then got a Sealey gauge and a 10m retractable air line.
I bought both my compressors from Aldi, a 25lt and a 50lt, they're great for the money. I blow my tyres up with stirrup pump again from Aldi, again very good value. However, gauges are a different matter. IMO the stuff Oxford sell, and similar, at the sub £30 price point are a waste of money. They are so potentially inaccurate you're wasting your time. Just for giggles I bought an Oxford and borrowed a Druck pressure tester from my old place of work, and as I expected it was 1.3psi out at 34psi. I returned it. My own gauge is an S.M.Gauge Company item and together with calibration I think it came to £90. Against the Druck it was less than 0.1psi out. Unless you have access to a test gauge or invest in a top end electronic gauge, like I understand some at track days have, then you really need to spend the money or don't bother and wing it.
