Alright Guys, Was giving my bike a quick hose down today and I noticed that the orange parts of the bike have started to fade - parts where there were stickers before or under a tank protector are a few shades darker orange than the rest of the bike! Mine's the white and orange one from 2016 so not sure about the previous pre-15 colour scheme which was black and orange. Has anyone else had orange fade or any other paint fade on their Honda and if so how did you improve it short of getting the whole lot replaced/resprayed. Cheers!
Not sure there is a lot you can do about it now. I'd be inclined to just live with it, not sure it's worth a respray. Get some new decals or tank pad if you need one and disguise the area Orange is just one of them colours that shows up sun fade
Is it fade or is it a case of the covered paint getting darker a bit like white gloss that doesnt get any light quickly turns cream then yellow? I would try a light machine polish first and see what you get from that before looking at a paint job
Maybe a bit of oxidation just like you get with red paints fading to pink, but perhaps a little surprising since its only 2016. Maybe start off with a decontamination and clay then test a finishing polish on a non conspicuous part
Good ideas thanks guys gonna go give it a mild polish first and see if that goes anywhere ! Will take a picture of where the tank protector was compared to the rest of the bike. Apparently the 2015 onwards use colour code YR250X instead of YR250 so will go and try to see what that looks like. The stickers are slightly darker orange than the painted bits too. Only noticed it in direct sunlight today.
Recommend Menzerna 2500 as first stage and 3800 as a finisher using Lake county pads. Glaze over with Autoglanz SuperNova - the finish is out of this world!!!! Just watch the raised edges, Honda paint is super soft and micro thin - doesnt take much to burn through!!
As the sun has gone down the camera isn't really picking it up you can see the contrast between the stickers and the tank but in the second photo you can't really see where the tank protector has been removed and then a part of the tank that hasn't had a tank protector on it, but with the sun directly on it you can see there's a few shades difference. Will try again tomorrow with the sun out. Maybe all the Repsol's are like this though? Going to do the polishing and see where that takes me but yeah I'll be super careful, can imagine it's a bit fragile!
I remember when I had my 2007/2009 Repsols, whenever I used to use spray polish and a white polishing cloth on the wheels they used to turn slightly orange.
My repsol wheels went to a creamy dull light orange over 4yrs...paint came off every time I cleaned it. You could see the paint contrast under the stomps too. Never bothered me tbh...can't see it when you're riding but then again it was only worth £2.50 when I got shut
Yeah I've seen people talk about the wheels fading before as well, just never the actual paintwork. Gonna give it a clay then a mild hand polish and see how it is, from there might use a DA but will see how we go with the gentler steps first!
These meguiars are really good if looking for a Light going over. I would try with a polish first as that's often enough, if not then try the compound but even that is reasonably light so is quite friendly in novice hands with a DA polisher. A lighter cut but still does the job and easily available.
