Found this article on a racing website, so maybe they've had one blow up hence the recall inspection. https://www.roadracingworld.com/news/honda-europe-recalling-cbr1000rr-r-fireblade-sp/
Thats not good, guessing they tracked it down to this conrod defect and the batch of bikes built between certain production date thats why the American market isn't effected as I guessing first production run was for the EU market.
I wouldn't count on Honda being honest. There are supposedly only 50 US bikes so those parts are coming out of the same source as the rest of the bikes. They can say "it doesn't affect the US bikes" but we will never know because the bikes are still in Honda's custody and can easily be retrofitted. All you can hope is the bike ends up reliable. This is an all new design - new bottom en, new top end and all new layout. I am inclined to wait for the 2nd generation.
In all seriousness; I’d be concerned who is doing the pulling apart, remedial work and putting it all back together. These are intricate machines assembled in controlled environments by technicians specialised in their particular part of the assembly process with the correct setup and tooling to perform that task. It’s just not possible for that to be exactly repeated for what it sounds like being required to be done by 1 or 2 mechanics on each bike.
I'd rather it go pop on a dyno then flat out in 3rd into my favourite country bend......trying to get to much out of the engine ....
in 21st century most of modern bike's assembly is pretty simple. every racing team will strip the bike down, install racing components/looms and re-assemble it. The bike then competes in races where environment is 10x harsher than public roads.
When I was in picking the Speed up yesterday I asked if they'd got an ETA for delivery. The answer was not as yet.
Speaking of dyno.. Check the precautions I found out about. Although they apply if being performed before the initial 600miles run in. Also, bloody complex running in period! How does this compare to the previous 2017-19 SPs? Can post the other pages if people want. Ohlins need servicing every 10,000 mi or 2 years..
Please do post the other pages. Honda CYA What a crock. And don't rev over 13,400/? Sounds like they are expecting people to blow engines at sustained high RPM. US buyers wont have to worry, their bikes are capped at 12,500 LOL Well, this is what you get - I already said I hope people are ready for Ducati V4R levels of care, paranoia and maintenance.. 214hp in a 999cc package does not come without risk LOL There is a reason why Ducati made th eV4/S 1100cc in a low state of tune for the street guys and the V4R 1000cc in a super high state of tune for the racing crowd. Different strokes for different folks. Traditional Fireblade buyer are goign to be very disappointed by the SC82. More importantly Honda have know since BEFORE 17 Feb 2020 and have been consistently dishonest to all those customers asking about the bikes they had already ordered and in some cases paid for. This SC82 model looks to be a technical disaster in the making.
I'll upload them in a bit! But like I mentioned, the restriction on dyno is only during the 600mi running-in period according to that page. Yes, this model definitely seems to require a lot more care and attention. When I told the dealer's I'm still weighing up all options (other than Honda), no matter what bike I mentioned, he proceeded to list the worst issues with each brand.. His mate this, his friend that.. Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge of any major Honda issues but it became more of me trying to defend the other brands than to have a reasonable discussion about the positives/negatives of the bikes dependant on my needs. When I did mention something as simple as no quickshifter on base model, ("it's available as an accessory!" ) for a £20k bike whereas all others have it as standard, he just shrugged. Similar reaction to other points like seating position and no cruise control (BMW/Aprilia have). To be honest, not a lot of confidence with this guy, I know he's a dealer and needs to believe Honda is the best thing ever but I just wanted to get some advice as a motorcycle user. Not as a Honda enthusiast that will lap up everything he says. Oh and apparently the noise is so loud, it will not be suitable for track riding in the UK due to noise regs. He was quite adamant about this.
So @Maad why are they selling a track focused bike in the UK that you can't use on the track, doesn't make sense at all.
Well, to be fair the SC77 is also too loud at full throttle for some tracks already. Hell, even some street cars int he USA get pulled for running full throttle past the noise meters. But its the other issues that come with a knife edged tuned 1000cc that I think are the problem. Ducati just side stepped everything by making the street bike 1100 and the homologation bike 1000. Thanks mate
I almost feel guilty being able to run full throttle with an open race exhaust at our local road course... but I know its only a matter of time before a housing estate pops up down wind that will put an end to that.
