Hi guys I've bought a 2013 Blade and have noticed that at lowish speeds over moderate bumps I am getting a clunking noise from the front end . It happens as I approach my driveway over a small 2 inch kerb . The guy i bought the bike from said that a honda dealer serviced forks and seals at bikes last service . But the forks are nowhere near compressing anyway so i dont think it's that. I've checked all bolts at wheel and forks etc . Bike has 10k miles, any ideas ,, TI A. I have read online that so.e blade owners report similar and are putting it down to the fork set up on the bike and not to worry .
It will be the headstock bearings!.sit on the bike press the front brake and push on the forks to make them compress and bounce back up see if you can hear the knock do it loads of times. If it clunks happy days you know what it is on to youtube find a solution
get the front end up and do your checks, discount the head stock then brakes (pads, calipers, discs) other wise as I said other have posted this is a characteristic of BPF, unfortunately I cant comment from experience as I only had the 08+ forks and ktech internals https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/bumpy-braking-feel-at-low-speed-anyone-else.29910/
Hi slick. Thanks for the thread hunt , alot of the posts on the thread talk about brake judder etc under braking which isnt relevant however a few mention the symptoms I'm experiencing which his more often a knocking over bumps . Showa forks seem to be the culprit . Can live with the noise as long as it safe ?
It a common noise on the BPF, say when going very slow or moving bike over bumps. Honda dealer even said about it aswell. Esp over kerbs etc on paths. All mine done it
Update on clunking noise, bike was taken to honda dealer on Monday , after a test ride and examination the diagnosis was the bushes at the bottom of the fork legs were shot . Parts ordered , and seals etc replaced all under warranty and the bike is now as quiet as it should be over bumps
Strange one. I’ve had 3 post 2012 blades, two of them from new and they’ve all done the clunking thing. Tried the warranty and dealer route to start but always told it was fine
I have a 2013 with no clunking, For Honda/Dealers to say some of the forks sound like that I would say is a Honda cop out. If it clunks something is not right, It may be safe but still not right.
