Just had a low miles 2014 rear shock fitted to my 2008 blade. Please can anyone tell me what the standard factory settings are (I only have the owners manual for the 2008). I'm OK with the preload as there's a paint mark to show, but I'm not sure about the compression and rebound. Might try and adjust settings to suit me, but would like to start with the standard set-up Thanks!
Brilliant - you're a star John- thanks very much that's exactly what I wanted to know. I assume any old flat screwdriver will do the job in absence of the "Honda BFR adjuster"? Silly me - went to look at the bike again and saw why I can't access the screws with a normal straight screwdriver... But the screwdriver blade on my penknife works perfectly and all back to factory settings now.
I used these settings, admittedly on a 14 Blade with matching forks. Weight around 75KG and good settings for fast road over standard MY12-15 Showa Big Piston Forks Modified Front Compression 7.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Rebound 3.0 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Preload 5.5 Turns in from Full Anticlock (Soft) Rear Compression 3 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Rebound 2 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Preload 6/10 MY12-15 Showa Big Piston Forks Factory Setting Front Compression 5.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Rebound 4.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Preload 7.5 Turns in from Full Anticlock (Soft) Rear Compression 2 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Rebound 2.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Preload 4/10
There is a slight difference in the rebound settings between 12/13 bikes and the 14/16 ones: 2012 Standard Settings Front Compression 5.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Rebound 4.75 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Preload 7.5 Turns in from Full Anticlock (Soft) Rear Compression 2.75 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Rebound 2.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Preload 4/10 2014 Standard Settings Front Compression 5.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Rebound 4.5 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Front Preload 7.5 Turns in from Full Anticlock (Soft) Rear Compression 2.75 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Rebound 2 Turns back from Full Clock (Hard) Rear Preload 4/10
Give it a try, I had a 12, and now a 14, and put mine back to the 12 settings just to soften it bit for UK crap roads. It all depends on your preference and riding style, but its easy enough to change back.
Cheers, I'm old and slow (see my videos in the touring section!) so I'm more likely to favour "smooth ride" over "elbow down"!
