Estoril - Crashed

    Last out of the day, 2nd fastest part of the track. Started to brake, and felt the lever "jump". Brakes completely gone. Let go of the lever, grabbed it again, brakes somewhat returned. The gravel trap help shave of some speed, which helped.
    Turns out the brake pads, the BRAND NEW brake pads might I had, supposedly suitable for racing/trackdays, worn out completely.

    Results: Sore left shoulder mainly. Bike suffered little damage. Broken fairings and gravel scratches here and there.

    Glad you’re ok
    Looks like you’ll be back up and running in no time.
    Get some pics of the pads and get straight into the manufacturer for some recourse. That is terrible :(

    That's mega brake fade. You did well to scrub a serious amount of speed off there.

    Noooooo!! The main thing is you're ok.. the bike is reparable and as the guys said you did well shave off most of the speed! Hope you get back up and running soon! Which pads were you running out of interest?

    SBS 809RS.
    I use 809SP or 809HS on the street and like them a lot. 809RS are waaay better in performance, but the durability....

    Yeah I've not used those but I've only heard good things....might be worth doing what @hitch said and sending a pic off.... but proving they were new will be an issue I expect... must have been a faulty batch, which is great when it's part of probably the most important bike of your bike :confused:!!

    Have you tried to use DS-1 or DS-2 compounds ? they usually last longer and do not delaminate when thin.

    RS is pretty much entry level compound and gets thin very quick.

    Glad you had no injuries !

    Yeah could have been alot worse so I'm glad you're OK. At least it was the last session so I'm assuming you had a good day apart from that! :eek:;)

    Not really... In the 3rd heat I went low on fuel, fuel pump must have suck some impurities or dirt, or something, and after that I had 4 heats with the engine "skipping some beats" a lot... second to last heat every returned to normal, so... yeah... half day "lost" and then a crash... :confused:

    Has it done it since or did it clear itself in the end.
    I ask as the most common cause of stuttering/misfire on these is caused by a bad spark plug.

    I hard a spark plug issue last year, also at Estoril (skip to 1:50):


    This time it cleared it self after a few runs... It got progressively better until it stopped.

    Best keep an eye on it then and hope it doesn't return.
    If you've got time, maybe even flush the tank out.

    I left the bike with my mechanic after the trackday, he's investigating.
