Took a punt on a Chinese seat cowl for the R1, colour match is not actually too bad for a metallic blue. Not over keen on the huge bumper pad but even the OEM ones are the same
Decal time....... Draws your eye away from the slight difference in colour shade. Yeah....... The fact that they are not even definitely draws your eye away from the colour
Had you have not mentioned it was sprayed by my cousin, I wouldn't have noticed any difference in the colour! It's only ever so slight in variation, but that could also be because the original paint is older/faded compared to the newly sprayed seat cowl. What a result, me thinks. Chin
Just picked up on this thread. You’ve made the right choice there, between the Yammy and the 954, remember very well trashing the ar*e of my mates identical R1 to yours around the Island in the early 2000s and watching him struggle to keep up on my 954, then seeing the same thing happen when we jumped back on our own bikes and he disappeared into the distance, it was the equivalent of a scalpel to a decent dinner knife. You had to work hard on it he R1 as it was so twitchy but it paid out in barrow loads of cash the enjoyment.
There is one thing for sure, they don't make them like they used to. I doubt a modern day bike will look that good in 20 years. Very nice bike, like others have said it takes you back to the good old days, proper bikes. Just my opinion mind
Been a big bike day today, started off getting the SP serviced and after I got it home during torrential rain and floods, Mr postman had delivered some goodies for the R1. A JT sprocket and titanium bolts. Not had one of these sockets before and they seem good value
Refitted the titanium Arrow can today, it had been on the bike a few weeks ago but it just wasn't sitting right. Turns out I had been sent the wrong link pipe and I just couldn't line it up with the footrest hanger. Anyway new link pipe arrived today..... From Athens and complemented by a genuine Arrow hanger it all fits perfectly in a nice up swept style rather than too low and not parallel to the seat unit.
I had one a few years ago. Used it for commuting and weekend rides. It was my every day bike. Frost rain and snow on occasion. It was lucky if it got washed once every 2 months. It was riden home and parked on the garage until the following day then back off to work. What amazed me was, when it was washed it came up like new everytime.even the rear shock was gleaming. Apart from the rims. The previous owner had removed the paint and polished them. Once a year they got a polisher on them . So impressed with the build quality.
I agree, build quality is superb and given the fact its 19 years old I'm amazed it still looks this good. This bike will get used but also cherished as its just to good not to. I've just used metal polish on all the fairing fasteners and bolts and they've come up brilliantly. So easy to work on too, fairings off in minutes. I'm loving this bike..... Feel like I'm neglecting the blade, I walked over to it the other night and said its ok your still my favourite and patted the tank
It’s looking so good matey, keep it going. Just something about these old bikes the modern stuff don’t give.
Looks very nice. What about matching the decals on the seat cowl to match the R1 on the side? ...not that it looks out of place, might look good matched up.
Do you mean in silver?? Seat cowl is temporary anyway. I've seen a custom one that I'm going to copy. Just need to find someone who does fibreglass fillling or some kind of bodywork repairs.. Here's what I'm looking at doing.... Don't like the big pad on mine.... Stick out to far forward.
I did mean the silver, but that custom seat cowl looks awesome. No need for graphics on that bad boy.
So these just turned up, got them from the place that I got the Arrow can from, sold to me at cost price at £180 by way of apology for sending me the wrong link pipe. I say sold...... At first I told him I'd spent enough on this bike for the time being so he deffered payment until I'm ready. Such a good experience with this guy considering he's in Athens and could potentially be a nightmare. PAPASTAVROU SHOP big thumbs up!!! The rear sets on the bike are pretty much the only thing on the bike that were looking a bit tatty so seemed like a sensible upgrade..... And at that price for a serious bit of kit
Get em fitted @PauloHRC, but take some photos first - that way you can post some before and after pics for comparison.
