Often most aftermarket rear sets have various positions for the shift rod to attached, including both normal and reverse shift. On the 1000RR (or most bikes), which is the best position for the rod for smoothest movement? Straight up? Or slightly at an angle?

I got into an argument about this on another forum...
I say having the rod at a slight angle is fine and use this setup on my bike.
Others say it's important for the rod to be straight (although they couldn't explain why).

Would have thought that a 90 degree angle was optimum , but don't think it makes much difference as long as it's not too acute. That's what rose joints are for?

Pretty much my thoughts too. But just wanted to see what people thought as well. With my rear sets I can flip between normal and reverse shift. Normal is about vertical and reverse is i'd say circa 20 degrees off.

When you look at the arc that the shift arm makes when going up and down the box, probs best to put it in the middle, usually straight down , position.
