Rear footpegs removed

Only 2 hours later and the bike basicaly stripped down to nothing, but it is done and it looks so much better. who's idea was it to hide the bolts :der:

I went for the following way to remove them:

1. Seat and rear seat cover/seat off
2. Rear seat cowl off
3. Remove rear lock and the two clips holding the tray in place
4. Remove petrol tank
5. Unship the battery, fuses, plugs, regulator etc from the tray
6. Remove earth bolt and clip near the rear brake reservoir
7. shift the tray back and up untill it clears the rear footpeg allen bolts.
8. Remove the pegs
9. Simply refit all of the above in the reverse order and your all done.

Don't think I will refit them in a hurry, but I think it would only take an hour next time as I was looking for a faster way and in the end it was quicker to remove the lot !

Angle grinder and a can of Special Brew, 5 minutes tops...

My mate took his off his brand new resol with a grinder.

Best mod i did, took me about an hour, didn't take the tank off or all the electrical gubbins out, just removed all rear end plastics and a couple a couple of clips underneath, then i slackened the main rear subframe bolts off and my mate lifted the whole rear end up enough for me to get to the bolts, job done! really improves the look of the bike

 

There is another method involving splitting the subframe, but it's just as time consuming really.

Is there any way you could cut the bottom of the battery tray out and get to them through the cutouts?

 

Are you joking or being serious ?

If you want to remove and reinstall them quickly and easy then you can get hangers that bolt in theyr place that you then bolt the pegs to for quick removal

 

One of the mechanics at my local Honda dealer said this could be done but you have to be very carefull no to ruin the whole tray! didn't take any notice cause i will keep mine on but just wondered if he was right or wrong.

 

I can't see why anyone would want to start hacking their bike about when there are two documented methods that don't require any hole cutting or drilling. :crazy:

I split the subframe, it's a bit fiddly and time consuming but a couple of hours tinkering with the bike in the garage with a couple of beers isn't really a hardship.

 

With holes in the battery tray surly water will get thrown up there every time you get caught in the rain ?

 

it was not so hard i would want to cut the bike up lol

in fact i enjoyed it, if i was not doing that i would only be cleaning, polishing or spending more money on it.

I did think about spliting the sub frame, but did not want to strip the whole back end.

Both good ways to do it though

 

I took the easy route, and asked George White to remove them, while I negotiated buying the bike

 

Same as me. Hunts did it for free lol. I did fit the tail tidy though and that was a Pain in the ass. Should have got them to do it at the same time really
