So, after thinking I might be tempted by a new 2020 SP I thought I'd get a couple of quotes to see roughly how much I might expect to pay if I were to use the bike for the following: 1. Social, domestic and pleasure only 2. Up to 4,000 miles per year 3. Value the bike at its list price of £23,500 4. Keep overnight in a locked brick built garage 5. Protected no-claims bonus (no other extras) - one annual payment 6. Not move house, so stay in Bexley, Kent. Don't know whether this is going to work as I've probably not thought this through, but how about people let me know what sort of quotes they can get? I'm wondering if anyone can get anything below £1000 based on 1-5 above.. My best quote came in at just under £2000. Hopefully this sort of poll might be interesting to some (and allowed on this forum - let me know if I'm breaking any rules and I'll remove it immediately!).
As most will know, I'm rarely here now, but this is an important topic and can really only be answered by few. I know you @Ice Doc are trying to obtain a 'random sampling' but criteria, as you know, will be so different among applicants with respect to age, history, and claims. With my personal experience, I invited a quote from Bennetts after finding them most reasonable in 2018 for my SP2. This time, they came in extraordinarily expensive. I even screen captured the quote from 28th June: You will find that most brokers and insurers whack a massive premium on any bike over 20K. I used BeMoto, who I regularly use, and on a separate policy paid £733 for full comp while valuing the bike at £19,999 (educated risk) which is reasonable because I could only carry over 3yrs NCD. Based on your info above, £2K seems way over the top. I imagine you'll be shopping around, but I respectfully suggest trying BeMoto: https://www.bemoto.uk/ .
£432 living in North Wales, no commuting and 9 years NCB. Bennetts. Did have another quote cheaper for £411 but I use the Bennetts Rewards scheme for discount track days.
I’m not getting one but thought I’d play the game and see what Meerkat threw up. £1378 is my quote, that’s with Bennett’s. I paid circa £180 I think this year on my RR6.
I always use comparethemarket to see who comes out cheapest and its usually bennets. I never go direct as the quotes are much higher and same when it comes to renewal time, i cancel the policy and take out the new quote off comparethemarket as bennets cant even price match themselves from there. Currently paying £128 fully comp on an rr4 by doing it that way.
Thanks @nigelrb - you're right of course, but I was really wondering if there was anywhere in the UK or anyone that gets a quote based on using my consistent points 1-5 that could get below £1500. I appreciate everyone will have different no-claims, annual mileage, riding history, etc. so it was more of a case of how different are the prices keeping points 1-5 the same. I imagine age, location and number of claims will be the biggest influence, but is there a "perfect rider" out there than can get anything reasonable..? I was thinking that when I go to my dealer they will tell me that a good insurance deal can be found if I tried. I am fully expecting that to be used as part of the sales pitch, but if I know that not even Marc Marquez or Miss Daisy's chauffeur can get a reasonable quote, then someone like me with 6 years no-claims and a relatively short riding history (6 years with a full bike licence) stands no chance of a sub £1k/year quote. Hence I didn't know if this would be useful.. I'd hate to see what adding commuting did to my quote.. I currently have up to 8k/yr on my 2017 blade for SD&P and commuting all for around £650 which is "ok" for me.
Ok, now I understand @Ritchierich why you bought one.. For me, it's a bit like only having £1M to buy a house and then not being able to afford the council tax and other bills.. Is that for up to 4,000 miles per year?
I use GoCompare, Comparethemarket and Confused for my quotes, all giving different prices, some for same insurance companies. I give it a try and I also put voluntary excess of £150 which brought it down a lot. Give it a go @Ice Doc what have you got to loss?
Yeah 4000 miles a year, however I've now done 2500 miles on the new blade so might of underestimated a little but done ride in the winter, bike gets too messy
£564.82 was first quote I got and hadn't tried playing around with options - seems quite reasonable. Oh hang on that wasn't the 2020 model (had selected 2016 on) - just requoted on that at £549!!!!! Might buy one now That said got my renewal quote today, Triumph Street Triple RS (765cc) 2017 - with quite a few aftermarket bits, and CBR1000RR 2007 - standard other than end can, both on same policy, full comp with £300 excess for the eye watering sum of £212 in total. Was cheaper than last year - I don't have the heart to phone them up and haggle!!
I have my Yammy R1M insured with Liverpool Victoria, living in London £1150.00 fully comp with commuting, with a bike value £19,000 and with £500.00 excess. Bemoto wanted just over £1300 without commuting at the same value. Both were quoted over the phone after calling them directly. Tried the comparison web sites and only 4 insurers would take the risk, Cheapest been MCE for £750 (appox if memory serves me well 2019) with a stupidly high excess £2000.00. Others were Bennetts, Devitt and Carole Nash all over £1600,00. Sometimes worth calling the insurers directly for quotes, and not to rely on comparison web sites. Good luck Ice Doc, hope you get a decent quote
Thanks, if I get serious about a new blade then I will give them a call. I think for me this is just another reason (including that I really like my 2017 blade) that I won’t take the plunge for a few months at least.
Wait until next year deals will be had 0% etc they aren't flying off the shelves .....only in certain areas and they are ltd to 4 to 5 per dealer but still will be plenty left....it is a great bike and once the snow is on the floor I will start the dance with the dealers...
wow cheaper than I thought for a Bucks postcode west of London, 40ish, clean license with 9NCD 570 with MCE but 2000 excess 840 with Bennetts 500 excess
