    You calling me fat :D
The guy who fitted the power 5s (sixstar tyres, Geordieland) covers a lot of track days and he said the pirelli tyres had improved the mileage on their newer products.
Used them years ago but they always lasted 5 mins so Bridgestone became my go to tyre for last 10 years or so.
The fitter has asked me to email him with my thoughts as these are the first set of Power 5 he has fitted , they were only launched this year.
Guys are always ringing him asking for a recommendation on the best balance between grip and wear rate.
All year round rider Pilot Road 5 (fits hundreds of these apparently hence his mistake by bringing them for my bike)
Fast road rider but not track days S22
He thinks Power 5 will sit with Pirelli as more capable on track but the Power 5 also a good wet tyre
After this he says take your pick of the track focussed tyres as all are really good
As ever though tyres are very subjective and boil down to what 'feels' good to you.
I saw. Dave Moss snippet once where he was saying some riders dont like a harder carcass as it gives them too much feedback and they cant process it so think its not working well and slipping and sliding when it's not & some cant cope with a softer carcass as it absorbs a lot of what's going on so less feedback but then people can think that means its planted. It's an interesting take on it and probably has a good amount if truth in it.

Hi @Paul Longstaff , could you ask your tyre guy about tyre pressures for Track on the new Power 5's for me please. Have tried Michelin's website and also contacted them but nothing back, was using F=2.1 bar and R=1.9 on the Power RS's, however Michelin have stopped making the RS and it is now the Power GP but they don't make a 200 rear yet so had to opt for Power 5 instead. Cheers.

I've dropped him an email so will see what he comes back with, that said though unless his supplier can advise I doubt he has any experience of them yet. I'm sure these were the first set he has fitted butbive asked anyway
Was the Power RS 2CT or 2CT+?
The sidewall is stronger with less flex on a 2CT+ which is on the Power 5 so that may make a slight difference.

@Ritchierich the tyre guy came back and suggested starting at higher cold pressures than your used to using and see how you get on. He didnt make a specific recommendation but did suggest as its a more road based compound they should generally run a slightly higher pressure.
Having tried mine at 33 and 37 on the road and they were great but I think I can drop a little more for road work. I will prob try 31 and 35 next so if I were going to a track tomorrow I would be looking at 29 psi and 33 rear as a starting point but that's just my oppinion
Sorry he didnt commit anything g more but I'm sure a session or two will see you getting them dialled In:D

Well well well, just had this email back from Michelin.

    Dear Mr Richard Stephenson,

    Thank you for contacting MICHELIN!

The MICHELIN POWER 5 tyres are for 100% normal road use, not suitable for track days/circuit.

Therefore we cannot advice you with the pressure for circuit and we do not recommend using the MICHELIN POWER5 for circuit/track use.

For normal road use please follow the instructions of the manufacturer, it is written in the manual.

For additional information please contact us by email: [email protected], on our website http://www.michelin.co.uk/, our contact form http://www.michelin.co.uk/contact or by phone to 0845 366 1590 or 0845 366 1535.

MICHELIN is happy to accompany you on every journey and would like to thank you for the confidence.

    Kind regards,

    Imre,

    your MICHELIN advisor

I am not surprised in that at all, otherwise it would be a "Why would I buy the Power GP if you recommend these on track"
Just the usual covering their arse haha

The Power 5 was advertised as aggressive road riding with occasional track day tyre. Would of gone for the Power GP but they don't make it in the 200/55X17 rear at the moment so Power 5 was my only option :-(

Ahh from a bit of Google Fu I've come up with the following from when they were released.

"The Michelin Power 5 is aimed at fast road riders who want good grip in all conditions. There’s also a Power GP, aimed at those who tackle the occasional trackday, while the Power Cup is meant mainly for the track, and the Power Slick which is not approved for road use."

    Absolute arse covering that.
They know fine well it's been designed with some track use in mind.
Michelin even did an independent observed tyre test against their competitors which involved some fast track type assessments on youtube...at least I think it did  ?
At least half the journo reviews rate it as a potential 50/ 50 tyre between road and track.
Its this litigious world we live in I'm afraid, they obviously just dont want to put their head on the block which is a shame as a pressure guide for the track isn't a huge ask

Actually 'normal road use only' does that mean it's only rated to 70mph in the uk?

The RS's weren't available through Michelin, my dealer tried to order me some and they will only fit tyres they supply :(, however got very good deal on the Power 5's and £30 cash back to boot. :)

Ah fair enough. I’m sure the Power 5 will be a decent tyre, maybe share your thoughts once you get a few miles on them. I’ve had the Power RS for the last couple of years and get on well with them, now they’ve been discontinued it’ll either be Power 5 or Power GP.

So the Michelin Power 5 or the Metzeler M9RR ?

I was sure the M9RR would be the next set of tyres, but not so sure now. Still a bit dubious of the wet weather abilities of the Michelin Power 5 seeing as they lack tradition rain sipes across the tyre.

The Michelin biggest claim to fame is their wet weather abilities. Apparently a whole new level of cleverness being utilised.
Its the same tech as the Road 5 when it comes to the sipes etc and hundreds of YouTube videos about the wet weather performance of the Road 5.
There is also a group test of the power 5 in different settings including the wet so get yourself on YouTube as I think you will be surprised :D

Thanks - I will have a look. Otherwise ideal for what I want on the new bike when it arrives at the end of the summer/start of autumn. Will want to ride it year round so need something that can handle the rain.
